Sarge's Translation: No one has ever been that damn stupid.
What are you talking about? Bo Jackson did it, ended up going from a first round pick to a seventh.

I do not understand your position. Why shouldn't he have the right to negotiate a contract like everyone else? Just because a team drafts him he should become their indentured servant (I am keeping a straight face as I type this - I should be so indentured) for 1 or more years?
Point is, rookies coming in demanding top dollar but have yet to play a single down in the NFL. Their should be a base salary for rookies the first year and then the second year the teams can sign these players to whatever they feel is neccessary to keep them or can get rid of them. This here would stop all this hold out crap that happens every year.
Wasn't that 'cause he he was playing Baseball though
dunno:

also damaging relationships between the player and the team before the relationships have even been formed.
Hardly the rookies fault. The owners came up with / agreed to a process that allows this to happen in order to eliminate competitors. It is not as though the rookie can get a competitive bid for their services because there is only 1 team with exclusive rights.
And it has gotten out of control. So whats your point? i hope he goes back to the draft and falls flat on his face and has to wait to get drafted in the 3rd round and loses millions, and ironically SF drafts him again. LOL.
I thought the draft was collectively bargained in? IF so, does not both parties hold responsibility to this issue? My point was I do not understand the logic behind your position. You support the owners who created the system and then condemn the rookie for playing the game they created and allowed to get out of control. Seems a little askew to me.

I will also add, that the only way the league will ever get the veteran players correct $'s is to put in a rookie wage cap. To be giving players who have never taken an NFL snap so much money...only cripples a team. The guys who deserve it.....are the vets who have shown they can play. IMO.

Damaging non-existent relationships. Really?
There must be some big space between my lines 'cause your reading way to much into it. NEVER have i once said i support the owners for this mess that has been created. All i am pointing out is there should be a salary cap/base salary for which rookies get paid. Yes i do disagree with the way rookies are holding out each/every year for ridiculous amount of money and they have yet to prove they can play in the NFL. How many times have teams been screwed by rookies who failed in the NFL or were injured and missed the first season. Yes the team owners created this mess and only they can bring this fiasco to an end.
And how many times do they find studs on the cheap? Colston, Boldin, nevermind. Not going to start listing. You see the point.
Yes but that is not the point here. This is about the amount of money rookies are demanding before even stepping on the field.
