Palmer selling his house, ready to retire if not traded

I've always kinda felt the lunatics ran the asylum in Cincy, and Palmer has always been the good soldier holding to the company line. I really don't blame him for this, and I'm not trying to be argumentative. If they could get a 3rd rounder for him, I feel that would be the way to go.

Won't happen. Mike Brown is old school. He feels if he folds to Palmer, the rest will do the same as a precedent has been set. He would rather have Palmer sit in CA, and eat bon bons than trade him away and let players feel he can be forced to make moves.

The problem with this mentality, is he doesn't see the benefits TO the team if he makes a move. If he trades Palmer, and stays above board, he could get more player loyalty, plus the value of new talent for whatever trade he could get. Plus, at this point, if Palmer comes back....can he be the leader they want? He basically said I am done, I won't be back...and then he folds. I wouldn't listen to him.

This literally is a no win scenario for both, and Brown will make sure of it.

For the draft pick yes i would. Still think he's better than what we have right now. Didnt realize he still had that much time on his contract tho. So no i wouldnt waste the money on a wish and prayer that he can proform.
 
Honestly, I'm kinda hoping Miami makes a play for him and restructures his contract. There's a good core of players there with a solid locker room, so he isn't going to walk in being "the guy". I agree with the comment that this is Barry Sanders Syndrome and not a money issue.

fbg view: This is the smart strategy for Brown simply because the Bengals will be hosed at QB without Palmer. Insisting that Palmer will remain with the Bengals could also drive up his trade value.

They are hosed with him, so why not get something for him and get rid of the big salary? Bring in a guy like Orton until you groom your next QB. It's not like they are going to be a contender in 2011, especially in that division.

That is funny. Palmer can come back any time he chooses and they will have to pay him when he does. I can just see him and McNabb there at the same time

Mcnabb wont do any better if he does go to cincy. Whos he going to throw to? He's too old to sit back there waiting for an open anybody. He might end up taking a severe beating and be finished by mid season. Unless Cincy pulls in some legitimate WRs who actually want to play ball rather than have some second rate tv show that sucked anyways.

Uh, Wr is the least issue for Cincy. They have Ocho under contract, they have Shipley and Simpson(who kicked butt at end of season) and Caldwell. Add the young TE who was solid. Wr options arent the issue. O-line...maybe, but not receivers.

I think it would be totally ironic though...if McNabb goes to cincy...and they bring back Owens.... :biglaugh:

After watching ocho last season and his antics, really consider him a quality wr? pffft, i think not. shipley? has butter fingers. he corrects that then yeah hes a quality guy. simpson? end of season. games didnt matter anyways so was really guarding him. Think your putting a super man cape on a team that has more issues than just one player. mcnabb wont make cincy any better than last year, esp if carson is still hanging around. they need to trim the fat and start over. they're not going anywhere in that division any time soon anyways.

Ocho was a product of Owens in my opinion. But it is only my opinion. Shiply had butter fingers? He was a solid reciever, he caught most. I think you are over doing it here. Caldwell is a great slot receiver. Simpson produced against solid defenses when the other team had to win. What do you want? I am not putting superman capes on anyone. They have recievers. O-line is an issue.

Oh, and there is no way they go and sign McNabb. Won't happen. So this is somewhat moot anyway.
 
I think the truth lies somewhere in between. The youngsters show a lot of promise, and the vets have talent along with diva issues. And don't forget about Graham.

Enjoy retirement Carson....too bad your not the leader CIncy thought you were.....if I am any other team, there's not way I want a QB who is not capable of being a leader and quitting is not being a leader.....

A product of Owens? If you mean he played the fool because TO was there, Child please. 85 was a fool long before TO showed up.

Owens played really well last year. At 37, he's still a far superior receiver to 85. I would love SF to pick him up. As well as he takes care of himself, he could play at a high level for at least two more years. Big improvement for SF over Morgan.

But he wasn't too tired to pick up that 100+ mil contract....play or retire, no way i'd trade the cry baby.....and tired of losing??? Come on guys, it's not like this is the Bengals of the 90's! They sucked last year, but this is a team with 2 division titles in 6 years. They were also a missed FG in 06 away from the playoffs......it's not what we want, but damn, those 2 division title are damn sure more than a lot of teams have over that same period of time.

And what is sour about what I said??? He is QUITTING on his team and the committment he made.....it is what it is......if he is soooooo tired of losing, maybe he should figure out what he is throwing to players with the opposite jersey on almost as much as he is finding his own team in the endzone!

If Palmer was lighting it up and the team was holding him back, then he may have a leg to stand on, but when you cash in like an Elite QB.....play like an average QB at best......then just take your ball and go home like some 3rd grade boy who didn't like the way school yard pick'em went......sorry, no sympathy from me. If he doesn't like losing, get better, don't quit!
