ESPN's Sal Paolantonio
dropped a bomb during an appearance on Sirius NFL Radio Thursday regarding the
Philadelphia Eagles' intentions with
Kevin Kolb. Namely,
they want a player that can contribute in 2011 instead of a 2012 draft pick in exchange. There had been reports earlier this offseason of a 2012 first-round pick already on the table from a mystery team, but the team's mission to win now trumps help down the road, apparently.
In any case, this obviously alters our view of the teams interested, and adds a new wrinkle to all the speculation (and imagination) going on. The sports radio airwaves in Philly have been crackling with the idea that the
Arizona Cardinals -- presumed to be the front-runners for Kolb for some time now -- would trade either No. 5 overall pick
Patrick Peterson or the man he's expected to join as a starting cornerback,
Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, to the Eagles in exchange for Kolb. While the Peterson suggestion has been summarily debunked at every turn, the Kolb-for-DRC trade has drawn mixed reviews from Cardinal bloggers (Greg Esposito of
ArizonaSports.com calls it a no-brainer, Scott Allen of
Raising Zona thinks it would be a terrible idea).
