Kevin "Corn on the" Kolb Trade rumors..

Its not their decision Cerberus. They won't overpay a decrepid old Qb. At least if they are smart they won't.

Just thinking they will try to keep him around another year while molding his predassesor, prede..., predes..., his replacement. Seems smarter that way than invest a small fortune and draft picks for Kolb, for who might or might not be worth it. Kolb needs to prove himself first before asking for retirement money.

The National Football Post reports trading QB Kevin Kolb looks like it’s going to become a lot more challenging for the Philadelphia Eagles. The plan all along has been able to deal the quarterback for pick(s) in the upcoming draft. With the draft now 11 days away, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports it’s highly unlikely the lockout will be lifted in time for the Eagles to package Kolb for picks in this year’s draft. Team are prohibited from trading players during the lockout, meaning the draft will likely come and go with Kolb remaining property of the Eagles. Then, the question comes what the Eagles will seek in a deal after the draft. They could look to the future and focus on picks in the 2012 draft, but that won’t help them this coming season. Kolb is signed for only one more season, so Philadelphia needs to trade him and in order to maximize his value, they need to do so early in the offseason allowing Kolb time to learn a system with a new team. The Eagles have long been rumored to be seeking a first-round pick in exchange for Kolb. Are they willing to wait until 2012 to use that pick? They might have to because putting together a player-for-player deal is tough to do in the NFL. Stay tuned. Once the draft arrives, the Eagles are going to have to move to Plan B when it comes to wheeling and dealing with Kolb.

I don't feel the Eagles need to rush this. The style of play that Vick utilizes tells me that kolb will be likely needed this season. If that happens and he can show more, his stock rises for the eagles. If not, then a 2nd rounder next year wouldn't suck.

Well, they get nothing for him next year, so they're better off cashing in now. Reid's system seems to be very QB-friendly, and my guess is Kaufka (or whatever his name is) will play well enough as a back up. Reid can also bring in a veteran, almost any veteran, and make him look respectable.

Now, irony of irony, rumors are out there that Philly is getting trade offers for Kafka as well. No way they deal both, but this is getting to be very interesting. Flynn is once again getting interest from GB. Evidently, he has only this and next year on his deal.

It's all getting very interesting. I posted a story about the Dolphins looking to draft Mallett. But another Phins beat writer speculates that they won't draft a rookie QB because Soprano and Ireland might not "have enough time" to develop a rookie QB.

It's the one thing that is unique about this year. A lot of these moves for vets and backup QBs could have already be done by now. With many teams needing QBs if a team doesn't draft a rookie QB then it will be fairly obvious that they will have to make a play for a backup or a vet or fold up the tents for a year. The smoke screens will become a lot clearer.

According to ESPN's Sal Paolantonio, Kevin Kolb being traded to the Cardinals is "a slam dunk as much as you can have a slam dunk."
Arizona is certainly the frontrunner. The interesting part is going to be what sort of compensation Philadelphia gets. The Seahawks are also expected to show interest, but may balk at offering high draft picks after surrendering them in last year's Charlie Whitehurst trade. If the Cards end up bidding against themselves, it's hard to imagine them having to fork over the speculated Kolb value of a 2012 first-rounder and starter on defense.

This is nothing short of the best news for Fitz owners. I think this would be great for the Cardinals but will they be snaked from behind by Seattle? I for one wish this damn lockout was over so we could get some idea of the scenery next year.

We will see. I do believe that Arizona had in its mind to get Kolb all along, which is why they did not address Qb in the draft. However, I hear rumblings of other teams wanting to make a splash. The most surprising is Cleveland. There new GM is Heckert who was a huge ...no HUGE....no HUGE fan of Kolb. I don't get it as McCoy looks like a keeper, but I am not them.

Teams I keep hearing driving up the bidding are:
Arizona, Cleveland, Seattle and Minnesota.

As for Minnesota...yeah they drafted Ponder. But Kolb is on a one year deal, and even if they resign him, it allows them to groom Ponder. But I think McNabb or some other vet goes instead.

Another wildcard is Miami. They keep putting out how Kolb is not worth a first round pick...but that could be smoke.

I am rooting for Kolb to get traded to Arizona for a 1st round pick.

Partly because I'm an Eagles fan and I'd like the pick, but also because I'm a Kevin Kolb / Larry Fitzgerald dynasty owner.

According to Scout.com's AZRedReport, Cardinals coaches still harbor concerns about Kevin Kolb's potential fit in coach Ken Whisenhunt's offense.
Kolb's 11:14 TD-to-INT ratio has raised questions about his decision making, and his 6.46 yards per attempt in five 2010 starts is underwhelming. Kolb is considered a prototypical West Coast offense signal-caller whereas Arizona's system involves more downfield throws. Nobody questions that Kolb would be a major upgrade on John Skelton, but the Cardinals have to convince themselves that he's worth at least a first-round pick as a franchise quarterback.

Just now realizing this guys....

:eek:mg: Oh my friggen GOD!

I posted this during the NFL draft...and now I am just about to die laughing :biglaugh:

This is posted on the Arizona team website. I got the link for PFT.

It is now believed that the Eagles will take a player with a pick or instead of a pick if it will push them over.

This is due to some talk shared on multiple sites that has the Eagles believing this is the year to push for a title.

So the deal would be not a first round pick(which I think they would take for Kolb, but not sure anyone is offering...) but a player that they could use now and a later pick. I joked during the draft that Arizona took Patrick Peterson....just to trade to Philly for Kolb. Now that rumor is flying again...but it may not be for Peterson but instead.... Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie!! Whoot! :woohoo1:

I would take either, but Cromartie has pro experience and would be solid opposity Samuel!!

Now the site states they don't agree with the idea, but there is alot of smoke on this now...so it would not surprise me at all.

Well, now I have confirmation on wanting the player instead of picks:

Per Sal Palentonio at ESPN rumors:
ESPN's Sal Paolantonio dropped a bomb during an appearance on Sirius NFL Radio Thursday regarding the Philadelphia Eagles' intentions with Kevin Kolb. Namely, they want a player that can contribute in 2011 instead of a 2012 draft pick in exchange. There had been reports earlier this offseason of a 2012 first-round pick already on the table from a mystery team, but the team's mission to win now trumps help down the road, apparently.
In any case, this obviously alters our view of the teams interested, and adds a new wrinkle to all the speculation (and imagination) going on. The sports radio airwaves in Philly have been crackling with the idea that the Arizona Cardinals -- presumed to be the front-runners for Kolb for some time now -- would trade either No. 5 overall pick Patrick Peterson or the man he's expected to join as a starting cornerback, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, to the Eagles in exchange for Kolb. While the Peterson suggestion has been summarily debunked at every turn, the Kolb-for-DRC trade has drawn mixed reviews from Cardinal bloggers (Greg Esposito of ArizonaSports.com calls it a no-brainer, Scott Allen of Raising Zona thinks it would be a terrible idea).
