Whoa whoa whoa. Put the brakes on!!

Superbowl?? Let's not get carried away here.
Minnesota was far and away one of the better defensive teams last year. Add to that a solid running game...and the only issue was Qb. they have solid but young Wrs with Berrian, Rice, and now Harvin.

Put a Qb in that can deal and you make AP even better, and run away with that division. Even with Cutler now in Chicago.

Doesn't this sound a lot like NYJ?? How did that turn out?

Minnesota gave up 20.8 PPG. NYJ gave up 22.3. Pretty close.

Minnesota ran the ball for 145.8 YPG. NYJ 125 YPG. Not far off.

NYJ also had a solid receiving corps in Coles, Cotchery, and Dustin Keller.

Granted, the situation in Minnesota is slightly better. The rushing and defense is a little better, but it's not that big of a difference.

You're basically saying that the little bit of difference there is going to make up the gap between falling short of the playoffs in 08 to possibly winning another division, going to the playoffs, and winning the superbowl in 09.

Whether you like him or hate him or are indifferent to the whole situation, this is a high stakes drama for the Vikings, the Packers, and most of all Brett Favre. The Monday Night Stage alone makes this one of the most interesting stories in the NFL for a long time. Favre has the most to lose in this deal in my opinion, and if he wants to put himself on that ledge, I want to see what he can do.

Interesting comparison. However, the Jets are in the AFC, which right now is a much, much more competitive conf. NFC, especially the NFC north...isn't.

How difficult was the AFC East? Hmmmm

Well, the Jets needed to beat out a Miami team coming off a 1-15 season, a Tom Brady-less Patriot squad, and the feel good Bills.

The other QBs in that division. Well, there was Chad Pennington, the guy who lost his job to a 37 yr old Favre. There was also Matt Cassel, a guy who had never taken a snap in the NFL. Last, but certainly not least, was Trent Edwards, a 2nd year pro who only had 10 games under his belt in his career.

Is there really that much difference between these 2 divisions??

First off, Favre doesn't compete head to head with the opposition's QB. Secondly, regardless of Miami's 2007 season, they finished 11-5 and won the division. The Brady-less Pats also went 11-5 and missed the playoffs. The Bills started out 5-0 before collapsing down the stretch and were a .500 team for all intents and purposes.
The NFC North on the other hand, had the first team ever to not win a game, and lost out to the AFC East in total victories, 38-25.
Now, to the Vikes. They went 10-6 last year with a train wreck of a QB situation. With Favre and playing in that division, this is a 12 win team. They can do the 2 primary things that are regarded to win championships.. Run, and stop the run. Their pass D looks bad on paper because everyone gives up trying to run on them and just airs it out. Now you add a QB (who's way better than Rosenfels) who can actually get the ball deep to Berrian and now Harvin, and I see at the very least an NFC Championship game appearance for them.
I'm of the opinion that he should stop this annual drama-fest and stay gone, but the facts are facts, and he transforms this team from a borderline playoff squad into a legitimate Super Bowl contender.

The QBs on the other teams do matter. The better the opposition's QB, the more work you have to do on the offensive side to win the game.

Miami's record in 07 does matter. No one could have possibly predicted them to have a winning record in 08. That was an awful football team that many regarded as 1 of the worst to ever play the game. To turn around that much in 1 season without adding a true superstar is really special. The fact that they went to the playoffs and a team led by Brett Favre didn't says a lot.

The Patriots were the clear favorite to win that division in 08. When their best player, who also might be the best player in the game, gets injured for the entire season in WEEK 1, how does that not make that division so much softer?

Also, as far as Buffalo goes, yes they started 5-0. Whoopie!! This is still a mediocre football team that is led by it's defense. Anyone who claims that Buffalo is anything but an average football team is on crack.

I think there are more similarities between these 2 divisions than you may want to admit.

What did you miss?
Miami and New England were 11-5. Buffalo was bad fine.

IN NFC north.....Greenbay was pretty bad, Detroit was THE worst. Chicago wasn't any where near Miami or NE's record.

AFC East was better division. Rest of AFC was better conf.

NFC wasn't as competitive, and NFC north was the worst of the divisions.

The comparison is from AFC East preseason 08 to NFC North preseason 09.

The final records of teams in the AFC in 08 don't matter. Im looking at NFC North preseason 09 to AFC East preseason 08.

You going to tell me that all the teams in the NFC North are going to have the same records in 09 as they had in 08?

Preseason 08 everyone of us would have talked about how weak this division is, with a terrible Miami squad, and 2 mediocre teams in NYJ and Buffalo.

Look man, check this out -

Favre tries to go to Vikings straight outta Lambau...so he retires. He knows the Packers could block him and make him play a year on a team via a trade. It's an easy bet to make and worth a shot.

Favre already knows he wants to keep playing. And he wants to play for the Vikings. So he does a year in New York and makes damn sure they don't make the playoffs.

If Favre plays this year it means he wanted to play last year.

What a tool.
