Dolphins | Ireland believes Bess, Ginn ready to break out Wed Jun 10, 04:51 PM
Barry Jackson, of the Miami Herald, reports Miami Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland said he believes WRs Davone Bess and Ted Ginn Jr. are ready to have breakout seasons.
Our view: Ireland has previously stated that Bess is "no doutbt ready to take it to another level" and that Ginn is "a different player." Bess and Ginn are at the top of the depth chart with the injured Greg Camarillo, but rookies Brian Hartline and Patrick Turner have been turning heads in camp.

I like Bess in PPR. Never got into Ginn and think he needs a QB change for Henne to throw deep to take advantage of Ginn's speed.

On a side note... with the obvious commitment to the wild-Pat. Dolphin WR's and R.Brown could see a reduction in oppotunities. Especially Brown with Pat White taking the helm and removing Brown's huge wild-cat games he had previously, which was a large part of his point total.

Camarillo was a steal in PPR leagues last year until he got hurt. If he comes back healthy....keep him in mind.

Greg Camarillo (knee) was able to practice in individual drills on Thursday, according to the Dolphins web site. Camarillo, who is recovering from a torn ACL, was allowed to participate in one extra practice period than last week and looks like his knee is healing on schedule.

Look, at this point everybody is getting Wildcat snaps, including Chad Pennington. As for Bess, the kid is an absolute beast and I don't think Camarillo is going to be able to supplant him this year. Don't get me wrong, Camarillo is good, but Bess is going to improve this year while Camarillo is working his way back to 100% and in year three Bess is going to be an absolute monster.

He won't be a monster until he has a monster QB. He will be good this year and better next. Send him to the Bears with Cutler, and he could become a monster.

Didn't Bess come from the same program/scheme that gave us Ashley Lelie?

I'm not poo-poo'ing him, but I need to see more before referring to him as a beast.

Henne has a stupidly powerful cannon for a right arm and his decision-making skills seem to be better than He of the Retarded Interception. So, yeah, I'll stick to my assertion that Bess will hit his stride in his third year.

Without doing your usual crazy overboard stat projections, where do you have Bess at for this year? How about Ginn? And the TEs?

Davone Bess had the second most productive season for a UDFA wide receiver in the history of the NFL. Given how Wayne Cherbet (God do I still hate him) turned out, I think he's in good company.

As for comparisons between Lelie and Bess, keep in mind that Bess had as many catches last year as Lelie has ever had and more yards in all but three seasons. More to the point, Bess is the most productive WR the Hawaii program has ever produced (he owns most of the school's receiving records.)

I have no problems projecting a marked improvement in production from Bess, considering that in all probability he will be the team's No. 2 this year.

Do you think Penington deserved to win Comeback Player of the year-and for the second time? IMO Warner deserved it much more than CP.

Warner did so well that it was almost looked on as a continuation of a past level that was expected of him. Pennington got points for the the adversity of being spit out for Favre and producing, though i AGREE WITH YOU .

I would have to say Penny deserved it more partially for the reason given by Remo but also because Warner really should have been a candidate for comeback player of the year the season before.

Ginn - 95 rec - 1615 yds - 13 TD's
Bess - 115 rec - 1300 yds - 8 TD's

wait.... Marino is coming back and throwing for 6000 yds right???:koolaid:

Did you see my question DD?

No, I missed it. But to answer:

Bess: 75 receptions at ~10.5 YPC for 790 yards and 5 TDs.
Ginn: 70 receptions at ~16 YPC for 1120 yards and 8 TDs. Throw in a couple hundred yards rushing with a TD or two for good measure.

Production from Martin and Fasano from a yardage and TD standpoint is likely to drop sharply with the addition of Hartline and Turner, plus the increase in production from Bess and Ginn. I wouldn't expect more than 15% of the passing offense to come from them this year, although they'll still be sure targets for drive-extending conversions.

A couple hundred rushing yards??? HUH??? Last year he had 5 carries for 73 yds. Now he is a nice occasional weapon there, but 200 yds?? The leading WR in ru yds last year was Cribbs with 176, but for starters got the ball 29 times. Only 2 other WR's went over 100 yds, Brad Smith at 113 on 12 carries and Royal at 109 on 11.

I think calling for a WR who will not be the main WC option and will be used on occassional end arounds to run for 200 yds when he only received 5 carries all last season is being a bit optimistic don't you?

I will say, the rest of your numbers are realistic.

That's because all his runs came inside the opposing 40, with his long being (I believe) 35. I expect him to break out a couple TD runs inside Fins territory and to see a few rushing looks out of the Wildcat, probably as the jet motion read.
