And yet all of that Net's them a significantly less number of top 10 finishes in the Nation per conference. Too bad all those dominant teams keep finding ways to not make a dent into the top 10...sigh.....

It is easier to make the top 10 with an easier schedule. The Pac-10 plays 9 conference games a year, in the deepest conference, plus the toughest non-conference schedule. Meanwhile in the Big Ten, a team like Iowa can go two years in a row without playing either Ohio State or Michigan.

in other words what you are saying is you have nothing but the weak strength of schedule EXCUSE.....Those who don't win, makes excuses for why they did not....

Which teams would that be? Just curious.

Vandy - never finished in top 10
South Carolina - never finished in top 10
Mississippi State - last top 10 was 1940
Mississippi - last top 10 was 1969
Kentucky - last top 10 was 1977
Arkansas - last top 10 was 1982

SEC has 6 great programs, a handful of mediocre programs, and some garbage. Meanwhile the butt end of the Pac-10 has strung together 3 consecutive top 10 seasons or won a BCS bowl this decade.

If the Pac-10 isn't the deepest, who is? Why?

Surely KingDome you are pulling our leg when you state that the Pac-10 is the deepest league in the land?

What conference is deeper? The SEC goes 6 deep. Pac-10 goes 10 deep. Big Ten has Indiana, which is garbage. Big 12 has Iowa State and Baylor. ACC has Duke.

Who is deeper? Why?

Do you know the Pac-10 has a winning record the last 10 years vs. the Big Ten, SEC, Big East, & ACC? And we are only one game behind .500 vs. the Big 12 (22-23).

Thats all great information about not being in the top 10, but you stated that half the SEC hasn't been in the top 25 in over 25 years. So now why are you bringing up stats about being in the top 10?

When two good teams play each other, one has to lose. If you play a weak schedule. the chances of you losing diminish. Look at the #s, the Pac-10 plays the toughest schedule by far! Big Ten is #2, but an average rank of 10 points lower! Did you look at the s.o.s, #s I posted?

If I said top 25, that's an error. Top 10 is what we are talking about.

I also think you may be over looking the fact that a great many voters live on the left coast, not that that might have any thing at all to do with poll positions.

Your the only person I have ever met that has argued that the pac-10 is the deepest conference in the nation and actually believed every word of it.

I think most Americans would agree that the SEC is the best league in the land.

There is a difference between best & deepest. The top 6 of the SEC are super elite programs. No other conference has that much strength at the top. But in the SEC you have 6 weaker programs. The bottom of the SEC is weaker than the bottom of the Pac-10 & Big Ten.

Seasons of less than 3 wins:
09 - WSU (1-11)
08 - WSU (2-10) Wash (0-12)
07 - Minnesota (1-11)
06 - Stanford (1-11), Illinois (2-10)
05 - Washington (2-9); Illinois (2-9)
04 - Washington (1-10)
03 - Arizona (2-10) Illinois (1-11)
02 - Stanford (2-9)

Total seasons of under 3 wins since 02:
Pac-10: 8 (4 schools, 40% of conference)
Big 10: 4 (2 schools)

Just b/c you rotate your teams through the garbage pile does not mean it it not pathetic! Twice as many garbage seasons since 02 than the Big 10....yeah, real nice depth there....

Also interesting to note, you single out Indiana.....yet they are not on that list....

Though some might consider the paper title won by USC as proof that the voters do play a key part in lofty poll positions not earned on the football field.

The bottom of the SEC is just as good as the bottom teams in any other conference a majority of the time. I'm not quite sure where your getting that. Just because the Pac-10 rotates at the bottom doesnt mean they are the deepest conference.

Your the only person I have ever met that has argued that the pac-10 is the deepest conference in the nation and actually believed every word of it.

What conference is better top to bottom?

USC - 6 BCS bowl wins in the 00's
UCLA - Two Rose Bowl appearances, two top 10 seasons since 1994
ASU - Two Rose Bowl & top 5 appearances since 1987
STAN - Top 10 1992, Rose Bowl 2000
CAL - Top 10 in 2004
ORST - 2001 Fiesta Bowl winner
ORE - 2002 Fiesta Bowl winner
WSU - Top 10 2001, 2002, 2003
UW - 2001 Rose Bowl winner
UA - Top 5 in 1998

What has Indiana done recently? Vanderbilt? Kentucky? Iowa State? Duke? Every other conference has a perennial creampuff. Pac-10 used to have one, Oregon State, but those days are over. All 10 programs in the Pac-10 can pop off with a top 10 season. Can you say that about your conference's creampuff(s)?
