(cbssports.com) Patriots WR Wes Welker once again participated in individual drills for about 15 minutes Thursday before leaving the field. He was particularly impressive when he was cutting and running out routes. Welker is just four months removed from knee surgery to repair a torn ACL suffered in early January.

rotoworld,
Wes Welker continues to stretch and participate in individual drills at Patriots practice.

Welker retreats to the bubble for more rehab when the team drills start, a routine he's been keeping for a couple weeks now. The Boston Globe says it's "remarkable how athletic [Welker] looks in the drills and he's "exploding" upfield impressively. The next step is to get into team drills at training camp, something that is completely up in the air at this point.

rotoworld,
Beat writer Mike Reiss thinks that Wes Welker (ACL, shoulder surgeries) will open training camp on the PUP lists and stay there for at least the first six weeks of the regular season.

Reiss finally puts the brakes on all the optimism surrounding Welker's recovery. While the slot machine's presence at practice has been impressive, it would still be a borderline medical miracle for Welker to be out there at full speed in Week 1. "He's on schedule," coach Bill Belichick said. "Hopefully with no setbacks, he'll have an opportunity to get out there and compete at some point this year."

Welker news

Too much was being made out of the fact that he was running and catching balls from Brady. I wouldn't touch him this year unless you have a very large roster.

Reiss: Welker Likely to be on PUP for First Six Games --
Sun Jun 20, 2010 --from FFMastermind.com
ESPN's Mike Reiss reports even though New En gland Patriots WR Wes Welker's presence on the practice field for individual drills has been impressive, it's an optimistic timeline to think that he could be ready for the season opener Sept. 12 against the Cincinnati Bengals. If Reiss had to make an educated guess, Welker will open training camp on the physically unable to perform list, and will remain there through at least the first six weeks of the regular season.

If I'd of had a better title, thanks for the new title, it would have been easier to find. Thanks for all you do RC.

Ultimately, Welker doesn't deserve a thread on a fantasy forum...not yet, anyway.

Welker is toast and will be available off the waiver wire in redraft and keeper leagues.

He could resurface in 2011 or be a nice pick-up in November but he's certainly not newsworthy now.

You could pick him up from Mark @ a 12 if you want to move on him but I somehow think you aren't interested.

Might as well start a Kevin Jones thread.

I disagree. He was a top flight fantasy Wr. As such, tracking his healing does deserve some attention.

I am not totally in agreement here either. Until he is put on PUP, I won't totally count him out. The fact he is already up and moving and doing some drills is amazing.

I have yet to see him NOT drafted, even in redraft leagues.

Might as well start a Kevin Jones thread.
Again, totally disagree here. This is Welker's first injury, unlike Kevin Jones who spent more time on IR than he did in the field.

rotoworld,
The Boston Globe is giving Wes Welker (ACL, shoulder surgeries) "a good chance" to be ready for Week 1.

The Globe's Albert Breer admits there's still "a long way to go," and that Welker is likely -- at the very least -- to open training camp on active/PUP. Should Welker come off the list before Week 1, he'll be eligible to play in the season's first seven games. This will be a situation to track all summer. Jul. 6 - 9:59 am et

Very tough cookie, but I'd stay away. Edelmen will do a nice imitation and cost less. I expect Welker to return at some point this season, but I don't ever expect to see the same guy. He is smart, and he will adjust to be a key component to a team, but he will have to do it in different ways. He won't regain all of his quickness and cutting ability in my estimation.

I fear that you're right on that call RC but I've still got my fingers crossed for the tough young man. I hope he proves everyone wrong.

....and I hope I'm wrong! I feel the same way about Washington. He will never be able to reagain his jiggle, and explosion off of the cut. It just isn't possible.

Physically......yes.......Mentally........I don't think so.

Maybe it is just me. But if I ran a football team, and I had a talent like Welker, I would PUP him, and let him get the extra time he needs to heal. Why push him back too early, and risk injury again? dunno:

especially when you have a guy like Edelman who can suffice, and you drafted a stud TE to help you spread it out. Alot of this is likely Welker not wanting to miss the time and allow someone else to be able to prove what they can do. In the NFL, that is a concern many of them face every day.

I think you're exactly right on that RC and it's hard to blame the player for wanting to preserve his job.

cbssports.com,
New England WR Wes Welker will reportedly not be on the PUP list when Patriots training camp opens July 29. A Boston area radio station reported Friday that while Welker still needs medical clearance to be a full participant, a source indicated that he will get that clearance in time for the start of camp.

Analysis: The report needs to be confirmed by more than just a local radio station, but this is obviously huge news if Welker is able to participate in training camp in full if he's not on the PUP list. It would also be a good indication that, barring a setback, he will be on the field for Week 1 and avoid the second PUP list, which would keep him out for the first six weeks of the season. Welker suffered a torn ACL in Week 17 of last season and has been able to work out in individual drills this offseason. If Welker is in fact a full go from the start of camp, owners should adjust their thinking on him significantly. When healthy, Welker is one of the most productive receivers in the league and could see his value rise to a No. 2 Fantasy option worth a pick around Round 6. But if his knee remains an issue throughout training camp then Welker should be considered a No. 3 option with a mid-round pick on Draft Day.

The rotoworld spin,
98.5 The Sports Hub in Boston reports that Wes Welker (shoulder, knee) will be fully cleared for all training camp activities.

Though "98.5 The Sports Hub" is not typically a source for breaking news, it's been clear since May that Welker's recovery is way ahead of schedule. The radio station does acknowledge that Welker is not yet medically cleared, but it's expected to happen before the Pats open two-a-days. Should Welker practice in team drills, he will not be eligible to begin the regular season on reserve/PUP. His Average Draft Position should start rising quickly.

Yeah look for big movement from both players on the draft boards.

Who was it that said a thread on Welker was a waste of time?
