Get rid of the Rooney rule and hire the best person, problem solved. They make owners interview people they don't want to hire, so what do they expect?

NFL owners would hire Charles Manson (before he died anyway and had been available for a prison release during the season) if he could coach the team to a super bowl win. Sorry, but I just don't think race plays into not hiring a certain coach at this point in time. Wilks whining he wasn't given a fair chance when he was fired after just a year. Life in professional sports isn't always fair and definitely no participation trophies given. They didn't like the direction the team was going and Kingsbury made himself available. Good choice or not, it was their choice to make. Same with Flores. He did a decent job, but they decided they wanted an offensive minded HC to develop Tua, who Flores obviously wasn't enamored with.

Well, if all they have is "evidence" that a head coaching announcement was delayed until they could fulfill the leagues misguided Rooney policy that is forced upon them, then they have nothing.

An owner has the right to hire who they want and even if they don't want to hire a minority, that should be their personal decision. League needs to stay out of that end of it. They won't of course in today's woke world.

Fairly soon, there will be an African American ownership group. Will be interesting to see if the league makes them interview white head coaching candidates before they hire an African American coach. OK, but it's no different than the political arena currently. Hiring people to check boxes. That's how we end up with guys like Mayor Pete as secretary of Transportation when he knows nothing about the job. And that's a much more important position than an NFL head coach which is just a form of entertainment.

Best person for the job is what I am saying.

Haskins story taking a strange turn. Hit by a truck while walking across an interstate highway.

I actually did this once about 20 years ago while on a business trip to Southern California. A tequila infused night and got lost walking back to my hotel, which was about a half mile away. Ended up in a residential area. Saw my hotel but had to run across a highway to get there. Made it, somehow. Just goes to show how blind luck, good or bad, plays into how your life ends up. I think about that night a lot and how it could have gone tits up in so many ways. Just blind luck I made it unscathed.
