John Madden Retires

"The receiver can't catch the ball if the quarterback doesn't throw it to him."
"What they want to do on this play is get the ball into the end zone."
"If the running back doesn't find the gap, he can't get through."
"Boom!"

Good riddance.
Hawks Eye once took a test.

On that test he scored an 89. And still he failed.

Why? Three wrong answers at the end, when he was tired, somehow weighed more than the other 85 questions he nailed.

I sincerely hope you are joking when you say, "Good riddance". It's anything but good.

and, It's your disregard. You should be reprimanded. someone should complain about you.

Boom!

Eh, some people just didn't like John. I didn't dislike him by any means, but he was never my favorite announcer. I believe he will be missed by most.

and Moses dies before reaching the "Promised Land".

the only logical way to encounter the future is from the foundation of the past.

Personally I'm glad to see him gone. Maybe now I can listen to the TV announcers again instead of having to turn the radio on. Man, he was bad! Like an ignoramus who got promoted, like Congress in many ways. Very biased and corrupt, not truthful. He outwardly hated the Steelers and it was biased to an extreme in the early circumstances. We just get ready to watch a game and he would derisively call the game against the team I'm rooting for? I have had to turn the "big mouth" off all these years because he'd always get a "dig" in.

Now, if only the stock market would turn up again and this might be a good year! Madden retiring is a start.:crossfing

The Next Generation got to hear John Madden the broadcaster. As a broadcaster he expanded football as much as any other factor. He brought us football in a way not many sportscasters did. He brought his energy and passion of the game to us. He also brought us xs and os like no broadcaster had before. He talked about what the linemen were doing when it had not been done before. He talked about zone defenses when it wasn't done before. He showed us how WRs used pick moves when no one else had before. He taught a huge audience to appreciate football on a level that only people who had actually played football before enjoyed while watching. As Dukdown pointed out he won a lot of Sportscaster awards and about 1/2 them was for doing this type of sportscasting that brought knowledge of the game to the masses when it wasn't done before.
It's too bad the latest generation only got to see that Madden. He was amazing for those first two generations.

I missed all of that "fantabulous" announcing because his early broadcasting BIAS made me turn him off completely! So I might suggest because of his unprofessional delivery I missed all the cream of the above. He in fact stole his knowledge from me because he was biased. My loss perhaps. But all the irritation in the end was avoided for all those games by not listening to him so it's a draw. :funnytv:

Also, while Madden often overstated the obvious.

"If you have the ball and get two feet down in the end zone, well, then that's... that's a touchdown." etc.

He also had an obvious love for football and a very knowledgeable approach to the game. Even though he'd say things like "That's a great number for a tackle" and so forth, he actually had a lot of intelligent things to say about 4th down conversion, red zone opportunities, and talent evaluation (as I've noticed with the Eagles) with players who are sometimes obscure.

Madden wasn't the best at what he did, but he was always entertaining / drunk. He was a memorable commentator that will be imitated by many. He inspired me to some day learn how to make a real Turducken. MMmm...

Lots of recipes around. Don't go for that "cut them in half to debone them" crap though. My son makes 1 for us every Christmas. You have to learn how to debone the birds from the inside out without cutting them in half

If Favre comes out of retirement, AGAIN, will Madden come out of retirement too? Madden loves Favre, how can he constantly tell us about Favre if he is retired?
