John Madden Retires

I'm going to miss his crazy comments and his play by play analysis. Like stating the obvious all the time. What is Al Michaels going to do now? Sometimes in the booth it looked like he wanted to commit suicide, listening to Madden bumble on and on.

"Now you see Al, to be a good receiver you have to catch the ball. What he did was caught the ball. So you see he's a good receiver."

Seeing an NFL icon like this step down sure makes me feel older, LOL.

Can't say I am excited about Collinsworth taking his place.

This is a great post! :biglaugh:

And as much as i can't stand him I will miss him and him stating the obvious.

I never really understood them bringing Dennis Miller in either.

I think they should give me the job. Can you drink in the booth like the old days of Howard Cosell?

No, but since they moved Collinsworth in, apparently whippets are permitted. That's what he reminds me of every time I hear him talk is that he's sucking on an empty EZ-Cheez bottle right before he's on the air.

I believe euro-techno background music would be a nice addition to Football Night in America, though.

I think Collinsworth blows. Id like to see a new guy or someone with talent who can get you into the game.

So many radio guys kick ass at this kind of work, yet we get stuck with guys like Simms and Collinsworth.

M.Vick will be available soon then he could have signature saying like "This game is a dog fight" :thud:

Craig Way, the Texas play by play radio guy can get you INTO a game. Its like your there, and his commentary and emotion kicks ass.

These TV guys are all carbon copy and BORING>

Too much effort is made into putting former players on TV. I could care less if the guy talking about the game EVER played the game.

its not like madden has contributed anything useful to the nfl in the last 10 years other than having hs name on a bunch of amazing video games. theres not much to replace.

well... theres a LOT to replace. but not commentary wise. just nostalgia.

He stuck around longer than he should have, but that is one thing I like about the NFL. Even though he was past his prime, he was able to stick around and was respected due to the fact that he is an NFL Icon. It's good to see that "most" respect him for who he is.

And honestly, I haven't really had a problem with the way he announces. I could tell he was slipping, but I think there are plenty other guys out there right now that do a worse job than he does.
