Fins Martin leaves team after prank

Parris Island, perhaps not, but he is an employee of one of the richest companies in the world. He did not sign his life away to the military. Not just an employee, but a player, the most valued 1600 employees of an insanely large conglomerate. He did NOT sign up to be a marine. Even if he had, somewhat similar military examples (though fictional) can be found in A Few Good Men, and Full Metal Jacket. We see how this turns out in both cases, and how similar real world situations have tragically played out. Is Martin soft? Does he lack balls, fortitude, whatever?? Almost certainly. However, this a a public profession, a corporate workplace, responsible for making untold BILLIONS of dollars annually across the globe. Rules for conduct must be changed throughout the years. Would he have lasted in the 80s?? No... probably not... On the other hand, the 80s was 35 years ago... Think about locker rooms, or the game itself, or even life itself 35 years before that... Were things changed and amended? You bet your ass they were. Just because something was acceptable in 1945, did NOT make it acceptable in 1980. Just as another generation later, things allowed to go on in the past do not necessarily dictate levels of acceptance in the present or future. Minority players were not even allowed not so long ago. Hell, players like one of my own favorites, Dick Butkus, are both exalted by fans and vilified by detractors all the time for their style of play. Was that cheating?? Um, short answer, yeah. Was it accepted at the time? For sure. Can big nasty Linebackers spit at you, bury your head in the dirt, and knee you in the ribs while you're down any more? No, that would be completely unacceptable, and almost ensure a lifetime suspension or at least a lengthy one in Gooddell's Orwellian empire. While you may side with Incognito (I find this somewhat shocking, if it is the case, I read enough of the report today to know that Incognito is a despicable human being) I don't see him suffering too badly from this episode anyway. There will be a job for him in the NFL, he will make money, etc. The good that has come from this is now there will certainly be a stricter code of conduct in the locker room, and that no actual tragic violence took place as a result of what looks beyond even hazing. The bad, is there is a mentally ill individual who probably won't ever play again, and is forever changed by a sadistically cruel individual in the workplace (Where were his teammates?? Coaches??). Basically, is this acceptable in your workplace (can somebody say HR?)?? If it is, please do accept my resume. I will be sure to record my time at work. Soon, I will never have to work again.

Private Pyle has dishonored himself and dishonored the platoon. I have tried to help him. But I have failed. I have failed because YOU have not helped me. YOU people have not given Private Pyle the proper motivation! So, from now on, whenever Private Pyle fucks up, I will not punish him! I will punish all of YOU! And the way I see it ladies, you owe me for ONE JELLY DOUGHNUT! NOW GET ON YOUR FACES!
