Fins Martin leaves team after prank

I manage a crew about half the size of an NFL team. I'm not saying its anything like a locker room atmosphere, but this is business and people's livelihood. My situation is in a pretty rough and tumble production setting, and people can be pretty edgy.

I manage my crew very similar to the way a coach handles a team, and I can tell you this...while this is clearly Incognito being a prick, the burden of responsibility is on the head coach.

I don't understand how anyone lets anything like this happen. If this was part of the accepted culture id be all over my crew with a hard line. If you F with someone else, I'm gonna pull your f'ing card!

Anyone else notice that ESPN is running a parade of every African American anchor, analyst, employee, and janitor working for the company across a telecast to talk about this story?

I've heard the terms "racist" and "bigot" more in the last week than the time I watched the E True Hollywood Story of Mark Fuhrman on a continuous 24 hour loop.

Seems like ever since we saw Stephen A Smith's true colors come out when he let an N bomb slip on live TV, ESPN takes a hard and fast line on anything racially related in anyway.

Ill post the story after this but Ricky Williams had some great comments.

Here's a take of this I agree with.

Williams is exactly right. If we collected the voice mails and texts from every player in the NFL -- you'd see and hear things that would not "fly" with your social standards. What "we" are doing right now is putting the rules that govern our lives up against circumstances non of "us" can relate to. What happens in the NFL is very unique and so are the interactions players have together both on and off the field. Everyone at one point in their lives has to stand up for themselves. Martin using Incognito as a scapegoat for why he couldn't handle the "jabbing" and other pressures is selfish and irresponsible. No matter what you do in life you need to develop some thick skin. I still can't believe the media has made this front page news for over a week now.

I understand his opinion and I get the "locker room" atmosphere. I appreciate his perspective, but its not shared league wide, that's for sure.

I really enjoyed Larry Fitzgerald's take on the situation. His point was essentially that this is no way for any human being to behave no matter the circumstances. If you want to get nasty against your opponent and its going to help you win, get after it. Why attack your teammates though? It's just idiotic and misplaced.

I also heard another take that Incognito isn't attacking dudes like Pouncey cause he's gonna get his shit tossed. So what does he do....he targets someone weaker than him and latches on. Fuck this dude! He's a punk and a chump. That is incredibly weak in itself.

I had this thought too. Prison is a completely different "fraternity" that we free people can't understand. So when one dude shanks another dude, is it acceptable behavior on the accord that the outside world just doesn't understand?

I just wish we could go back a year and read a story headlined like this instead...

"Cameron Wake busts Incognito in the mouth following his hazing of rookie"

Not sure if I posted it but I also saw a story that said the Fins coaches told RI to "toughen Martin up" after he missed two OTAs.

"Its An Outrage"
Maybe J.Martin doesn't have the mental toughness it takes to be in the NFL, either you have what it takes or you dont and if HC Philbin thought that having Incognito try to toughen Martin up by bulling him doesnt say much for Philbin's mentality to be a HC in the NFL, he should have handled it himself in private with Martin more as a mentor rather than having a so called "Bully" do the dirty work which is now blowing up in his face, IMO Philbin should be fired immediately as he is also detrimental to the team for the way this was handled this.

I dont think of Incognito as a bully, i think he is a weak individual hiding behind a bully persona and as a result its now being reported that a year or two ago at a golfing event he physically attacked a young woman knocking her glasses off pouring water over her head & "Molesting" her with a golf club, as ESPN's Tom Jackson put it "Use your imagination as how the golf club was used"

So now, who is the real pussy ??

Revvin' for Seven!!
Dolphins G Richie Incognito told @JeffDarlington he has been suspended indefinitely.

Scape goat anyone?
The news reported the coaches told him to "punch" Martin if necessary. Scapegoat, indeed is somewhat possible. Sort of like firing Joe Paterno for what that other POS did.

Said Mr. Wells: "The Report concludes that three starters on the Dolphins offensive line, Richie Incognito, John Jerry and Mike Pouncey, engaged in a pattern of harassment directed at not only Jonathan Martin, but also another young Dolphins offensive lineman and an assistant trainer. The Report finds that the assistant trainer repeatedly was the object if racial slurs and other racially derogatory language; that the other offensive lineman was subjected to homophobic name-calling and improper physical touching; and that Martin was taunted on a persistent basis with sexually explicit remarks about his sister and his mother and at times ridiculed with racial insults and other offensive comments. The Report rejects any suggestion that Matin manufactured claims of abuse...The Report concluded that the harassment by Martin's teammates was a contributing factor in his decision to leave the team, but also finds that Martin's teammates did not intend to drive Martin from the team or cause him lasting emotional injury."
