FA Signing: DeSean: Staying or Going

Here's another rotoworld story that's a bit hard for me to believe...

"
The New York Daily News' Manish Mehta reports DeSean Jackson is unwilling to restructure his $10.5 million salary to expedite a trade, and may ultimately be released by the Eagles.

"Philly is trading him or cutting him. That's a fact," a source told Mehta. "They don't want him." Cutting Jackson would save around $6 million against the 2014 cap, and $11 million against the 2015 cap. The Eagles would obviously much rather trade Jackson, but his unwillingness to restructure and the Eagles' intent to cut him make a trade increasingly unlikely. The Jets and Panthers would lead the chase if/when Jackson is released. San Francisco and Seattle are also reportedly interested. "

Dam the Saints could sure use him to stretch the field.

Alot of teams not talking trade will reach for him if he is cut. Not having that contract on him makes him even more attractive.

No doubt about it but would your Eagles throw away from their best down field threat?
Unfortunately yes. Per all reports as soon as the season was over, DeSean started beating the drum for more money, regardless of the fact he was in the middle of a just renegotiated deal, and this was his first solid season in a while.

Kelly is a firm task master, and he wants players that are all in, for his system and team, not for themselves. Jackson is g0ing to be an example for all on what happens if you get stupid and selfish.

Also, as bad as his cap hit is this year, its double almost for next.

Even if they cut him, they save $6million this year, but $12 to $17 million next.

Plus this draft is absolutely stacked at Wr.

Yeah it's stacked and too bad for Tiger fans our kids didn't realize this wasn't the best year for a WR to leave school early. :(

However back to DeSean, I read one story that is now often repeated about him wanting more money and that's been all the news that's come out of him this off season. It seems to me this has been the quietest he's ever been. Maybe Kelly has a bit too much Saban in him but if so he'll discover that grown men don't walk the coaches line quite the same as college kids.

Am I the only one that thinks the Eagles would be stupid to do this? He is under contract....so what if he wants more money? Call his bluff, he will play and he is still your best WR by far. Maclin can't stay healthy and Cooper is a complimentary receiver. Jackson can change games and is a great fit in this offense......to ship him at first sound of more money talks it an over-reaction.

I am an Eagles fan, and I don't get it. I will say though, he isn't that durible either, who knows, maybe he wants to run more Rb stuff with Sproles now.

Well I don't care one bit about the Eagles and I know this will be a stupid move on their part if they throw Jackson out with the trash.

Statement from former Eagles WR DeSean Jackson: "First I would like to thank the Eagles organization, the Eagles fans and the city of Philadelphia for my time in Philly. I would also like to thank coach Andy Reed for bringing me in. Secondly, I would like to address the misleading and unfounded reports that my release has anything to do with any affiliation that has been speculated surrounding the company I keep off of the field. I would like to make it very clear that I am not and never have been part of any gang. I am not a gang member and to speculate and assume that I am involved in such activity off the field is reckless and irresponsible. I work very hard on and off the field and I am a good person with good values. I am proud of the accomplishments that I have made both on and off the field. I have worked tirelessly to give back to my community and have a positive impact on those in need. It is unfortunate that I now have to defend myself and my intentions. These reports are irresponsible and just not true . I look forward to working hard for my new team. God Bless."

I am always suspicious of "rumors" in the media, so I hope for his sake that they are not true.

Gee, then maybe all the pictures they have of you with the gang members are just doctored??? Good grief......what a dufus

now that being said, the doors are open for some wr hungry teams.

Teams I think would really want to add him:
Carolina, San Fran, Minnesota, New Orleans(with a cut of Colston??), Houston, Miami(with a cut of Wallace)

Sleeper - Detroit, with him and Megatron outside, and Tate underneath...Yikes

and I bet dollars to donuts that KC won't touch him, and they could use him badly

Ok...Panthers are saying no interest

Jets, Chiefs, and Seahawks are interested as is the Pats, and the 49ers.

Last I heard, SF was trying to cut ties with Lamicheal James.

Jackson would be a nice return man to plug in along with his WR upside.
Geez, that 2012 draft was awful. Jenkins and James.

Assuming there is nothing to the gang affiliation, I would love to see him in SF at the right price. Would bring a needed element to that offense. Assuming forward movement by Kaep in his development and a full season with Crabtree, the offense would be dramatically improved. SF caught a lot of flack for going 12-4 and within a play or 2 from going back to the super bowl, so obviously everyone knows how talented the team is. An impact WR is really the missing piece of the puzzle for them. That would also allow them to focus on the defensive backfield early in the draft.

I'd prefer he land in New Orleans "E" but barring that I'm pulling for the 9ers. If he lands there they could order their rings if they knew they could stay healthy. That's the only thing that could stop them.

Being friends with or knowing people he grew up with that are allegedly gang affiliated doesn't make him a gang member in any way though. The statement seems pretty straight to me.
