Well fine then. I'll only judge him based on his 2 years as the "starter" and throw away the injuries he suffered as a freaking backup.
While I don't claim to remember a lot of details on Jacobs first two years in the NFL as the back up to Tiki, he did play in 31 out of 32 games, so I wouldn't say he had an injury issue then.........
He missed those three games last year, but probably could have played sooner had the situation dictated it. The Giants were in the fortunate position of having an excellent pair of back-ups and there was no need to rush Jacobs. Smart decision on the Giants part.
As far as a one year pattern of success for Jacobs, he actually had a decent 2007 despite missing 4 games (I know, I know). TDs went up partially in 08 due to NOT having Plax to lob the short TDs too. They still don't have Plax, so my guess (assumption) is that you see a similar goal-line approach in 09. That's what I look for when judging a player. What is the situation this year. Certainly, past performance comes into play, but I think players are often overvalued due to not looking at how their situation changed (or didn't change) for the following year. Gore is another example. Pedestrian numbers the last couple years based more on team performance and philosopy (Martz) than his talent. This year things are lined up for a big season based on the style of play they intend to use, but many are basing his value on 07-08 instead of what is likely to happen this year.
Anyway, we shall see............
