Are the Skins looking to dump Haynesworth or not?

rotoworld,
NFL Network's Jason La Canfora reports that Albert Haynesworth is expected to report for the Redskins' upcoming mandatory minicamp.

La Canfora reiterates that Haynesworth's plan all along has been to show for mandatory work, and this is Washington's first of the offseason. It remains to be seen how Haynesworth will respond if coordinator Jim Haslett lines up him on the nose. For Haynesworth's part, it would be a misuse of his talent.

Albert Haynesworth will undergo a physical at Redskins headquarters at 6:30AM Wednesday morning.

As expected, Haynesworth is in town for mandatory minicamp. He'll get his first taste of new coordinator Jim Haslett's defense as 3-4 lineman this week.

DET - A landing spot for Albert Haynesworth? - Mon Jun 14, 11:24 AM
The Detroit Lions are a natural landing spot for Washington Redskins DL Albert Haynesworth should he be traded, according to ProFootballWeekly.com. Lions head coach Jim Schwartz coached Haynesworth while with the Tennessee Titans. Haynesworth would also form a formidable duo with rookie DL Ndamukong Suh along the defensive line.

Footballguys' view: Whew! Putting Haynesworth next to Suh on the D-Line would be nearly unstoppable. Jim Schwartz got the most out of Haynesworth when the two were together in Tennessee, and the Lions head coach would likely welcome a reunion. Haynesworth's contract becomes more affordable now that Washington has paid him the $21 million option bonus.

IF that happens I would name Detroit as my second choice for the 8 and 8 wins poll.

Albert Hayneswoth is still pushing for a trade and will not attend the Redskins' upcoming minicamp after all.

"The Redskins are trying to establish a new regime with new schemes at Redskins Park, and it is not an organization that Albert would have ever been attracted to just a short year ago - regardless of the money," said Haynesworth's agent. Haynesworth believes his talents are wasted in a 3-4 scheme. Coach Mike Shanahan's attempt to take a hard-line stance on his best defender's absence from voluntary offseason activities has exacerbated the situation. The Redskins will have to consider fining Haynesworth for missing mandatory work.

Albert Haynesworth did not show for the start of mandatory minicamp on Wednesday morning, as expected.

One of the summer's biggest dramas is officially in high gear. The Redskins can now begin to levy some kind of financial punishment because a player that is under contract is missing mandatory work.

The Redskins are pursuing recouping the $21 million option bonus they paid Albert Haynesworth on April 1.

The bonus was guaranteed, but a league source tells ESPN's Adam Schefter that "this is the type of case where a longshot may be given an extra hard look because it is so egregious." The egregiousness lies in Haynesworth's decision to take the $21 million, then not show up for a mandatory offseason camp two months later. The Skins may wind up shopping Haynesworth, but reportedly not before they make every effort to get back the money.

According to ESPN's Jeannine Edwards, the Redskins feel "blindsided" by Albert Haynesworth's decision to skip mandatory minicamp.

Redskins players, including team captain London Fletcher, are already coming out in droves to criticize Haynesworth's absence. Coach Mike Shanahan reportedly used the phrase "very disappointed" four different times when interviewed early Wednesday. "Obviously, he decided to take our check," said Shanahan of the $21 million option bonus the Skins paid Haynesworth on April 1. "(But) he's not been part of this football team."

Chris Russell of 106.7 The Fan in D.C. reports that Albert Haynesworth is expected to report on time for training camp.

Russell cites an unnamed NFL source for the report. Haynesworth was also "expected to report" for mandatory minicamps on time, so take this with a grain of salt. Albert's goal is reportedly to "avoid potential litigation with the team," as opposed to actually buying into the new Redskins regime.

NFL Network's Jason La Canfora called the Titans the favorites to acquire Albert Haynesworth if the Redskins end up releasing or trading him.

La Canfora said this in an NFL.com chat, so he was probably speculating more than reporting. He's also believed the Titans were in the mix for Haynesworth dating back to April. The Lions were once rumored to have interest, but since added DTs Corey Williams and Ndamukong Suh.

Comcast Sports Net Washington is convinced that a buyout of Albert Haynesworth's contract is the most likely course of action for the Redskins.

The Redskins "basically have no use for him anymore," and Haynesworth has no trade value with the entire league questioning his character. Cap specialist J.J. Halsell suspects a buyout would be a "pretty drawn-out process" due to union opposition. The Redskins are almost certain to try to recover part of the $21M they forked over earlier this offseason. Haynesworth could then be rewarded with his release if an agreement is reached.

Every player who is playing well and is underpaid should be sending this guys texts and emails. He received and $21 million dollar bonus and hasn't come to work. Why would any team want to give more money to a player with this going on.

Hey, get your $21 million dollar ass to work! ... love CJ.

Get your fat ass back to work!.... love VJ.

According to Profootballtalk.com, language in the current CBA gives the Redskins "little or no chance" of recovering Albert Haynesworth's $21 million option bonus, paid to Haynesworth on April 1.

The CBA (expiring after this year) makes it clear that Haynesworth's absence from minicamp does not entitle the Skins to recapture money. Haynesworth does intend to show up for training camp, according to Chris Russell of 106.7 The Fan in D.C., and would thus be able to keep his entire 2010 pay.
