The Baltimore Ravens re-signed wideout Derrick Mason on Wednesday to a two-year, $8 million contract. Mason spent the past five seasons with the Ravens, never missing a game and representing the team's most trustworthy targets. Mason had wanted to play again for Baltimore all along, but said that he would only return to the game if he got a two-year deal. That's exactly what happened. Mason, 36, is a fossil compared to other solid wide receivers, but he is coming off his eighth 1,000-yard season, including his third in a row.
While I loved the Boldin signing by the Ravens I wasn't as excited as most while Mason was dangling in the wind. For me this was the second half of the Wr puzzle in Baltimore. The addition of Boldin was great but keeping Mason on the other side is golden as these two will be a great compliment to each other. Now the other teams in the division do have a real problem stopping the Ravens O. Flacco, Rice, Boldin and Mason sound a lot more dangerous than just Flacco, Rice and Boldin. Flacco now becomes a QB I will keep an eye on in my redraft leagues. After the best high pick QBs are gone he could become a real gem in the next tier of QBs for those who wait to assemble other parts of their fantasy teams first.
