Brees says:

Brees Says Pierre Thomas is Saints Lead RB --
Fri Jun 5, 2009 --from FFMastermind.com
In a recent interview with WWL radio in New Orleans, Saints QB Drew Brees admitted that RB Pierre Thomas is the Saints' lead back. "I think that Pierre is our number one back and can do the job," said Brees. "I feel like RB Reggie Bush can be able to step in and do a great job ... but certainly I think Pierre Thomas is the total package."

Not all that shocking.

Even if Pierre if the lead back, I still see Reggie as the more dangerous fantasy player.

Really? I see Bush as more of a liability and think Thomas presents a much more stable and viable fantasy option. He has very good hands and is able to run up the middle. Bush may bust one for a td out of the passing game but his game is more hit or miss.

Thomas more so than Deuce when he was in that role? I see a nice split between the two of them - Thomas the yardage king but Bush with more TDs and being a double threat bringing his total yardage up to where it will also have value.

This could easily be a "Close Call" on it's own.

I just can't get over how amazing Reggie was before injury last year. He is such an incredible athlete that he can explode at any time.

The trouble with that though is he will lay an egg every 3rd week. If you don't get PPR or KR points, he can easily screw you over.

When I look back at Reggie's year, I see 4 big games.

Week 1 Vs Tampa Bay he scored 22 fantasy points on the 9th rated NFL defense. Not bad.

Week 3 at Denver he scored 26 points on the 29th rated NFL defense. A lock.

Week 6 Vs Oakland he scored 18 points on the 27th rated NFL defense. Another lock.

Week 14 Vs Atlanta he scored 16 points on the 24th rated NFL defense. Another gimme.

Outside of week 1, Reggie never had a big day against a top 10 defense. He also only had 1 big day on the road and it was against Denver (29th)

Reggie is starting to look less and less impressive to me.

Pierre Thomas on the other hand lived in Reggie's shadow for the 1st half of the year. Once he received more touches he showed what he could do.

When I look back at Pierre's year I see 6 big games.

Week 3 at Denver Pierre scored 13 fantasy points on the 29th rated defense. He did this hitting the endzone twice on 6 carries.

Week 11 at KC he scored 19 points on the 31st NFL rated defense. A lock.

Week 12 vs GB he scored 23 points on the 20th rated NFL defense.

Week 14 vs ATL he scored 22 points on the 24th rated NFL defense.

Week 15 at Chicago he scored 25 points on the 21st rated NFL defense.

Week 16 at Detroit he scored 15 points on the 32nd rated NFL defense.

Pierre did about the same thing that Reggie did. He had big games vs poor defenses. The one thing Pierre did that Reggie failed to do was to show some consistancy. If you were playing Pierre Thomas in your fantasy playoffs, he was getting the job done.

After all this I suppose I'm in the Pierre camp, especially if Brees is.

PPR or no PPR, still Pierre for me. Lets not forget that Thomas is no slouch as a reciever, and is still the only RB in franchise history to record 100+yds rushing and 100+yds recieving in the same game.

That was a sweet tidbit of info. I was big on Thomas before last season and he looks real good on most of my squads.

I think that they will both be viable fantasy options, but that Pierre Thomas will be more consistent and ultimately more valuable in either format. If you get a full point for reception it might be close, but I still favor Pierre.

The bottom line, however, is that you might not be able to get either at a fair price come draft day. They will eat each others points / opportunities to a point where their ADP might outweigh their actual worth.

Why is this so confusing to everyone?

When the saints were at their best running and scoring, they had McCallister as the main back taking most carries and using Bush as change of pace and on the wing where he is most dangerous.

Bush is NOT a full time rb. Why not use your strengths....as Thomas has shown he can do. dunno:

The Saints made it confusing the past year or so by trying to claim Reggies was gonna be featured. What they failed to realize is the best way to feature him is to call his shots and let the other back take the pounding.

Saints | P. Thomas suffers bruised left wrist Sun Jun 7, 12:21 PM
Brian Allee-Walsh, of the New Orleans Times-Picayune, reports New Orleans Saints RB Pierre Thomas (wrist) suffered a bruised left wrist during the team's practice Saturday, June 6.
Our view: Thomas went to the sideline but returned for the last few minutes of practice. It was the same wrist Thomas dislocated last season and required surgery on. Thomas said, "He just punched me right in the wrist. It was a quick, sharp pain, and I kind of lost feeling. But I'm good, and I got back out there and I finished. It's not bothering too much right now. But I'm going to get it taken care of, and I'll be ready." The Saints may look to sign free agent RB Edgerrin James if Thomas' injury is more serious than they think.

Bush, if healthy will still get you 70+ rec in a ppr league, that value can't be ignored and hard for Thomas to make up. Thomas is the better runner and will be the lead RB. Bush will do a little bit of everything and still produce. Both will be good and as RH stated, non-ppr, Thomas is your guy. in a ppr, I think it's still Bush. With Bush around, Thomas's rec targets will go down.
