So now they sign V. Shiancoe to their already stacked # of TE's including Gronk, Hernandez, Fells, Ballard, and rookie Turban

There is a method to the madness, and some of it is contractual. They are putting some pressure on players.

Hernandez is on the last year of his contract I believe, and they will want to stress with him he won't get Gronk money. I also think their goal is a more set 2 TE set, and having depth in case of injury will be huge. Fells, Ballard and Turbin are for blocking more than receiving I believe.

NE rarely keeps the same offense year to year it seems so I think your getting a glimpse at their plan.

Single back set; 3 TE bunch; 1 WR out to the side.....or hell, maybe a 4th TE out wide.......wait.....Hernandez is in the backfield with a 3 TE and 1 WR set. ****, maybe the just direct snap it to the TE.....

Hernandez is going to request WR money from a FT if they go that route....and I think they may win in that case.

That's what my mind wants to do with this entire affair Miller. This is New England after all and I want to think they're dreaming up something that isn't done. Now I agree that it's only a dream in my mind I could see Bill opening with three or four TE's. Wouldn't that create some matchup problems?

they signed gronk to a billion dollar contract who else they putting pressure on?

Hernandez.

Ballard is a restricted free agent after this season, the Patriots would have the first shot at re-signing him. This is a future move on the part of the Pat's to get ahead of Hernandez who will be looking to gouge for money since he can be a free agent after 2013.

The really interesting thing is that Ballard is more of a "Y" like Gronkowski, he is Gronk-lite. Hernandez is more of an "F". They brought in Scaife who is also more of an "F", but dropped him and that says to me that they see something in Ballard that they can work with. When contract time comes up for Hernandez, they can afford to let him walk, or they can keep him and let Ballard walk (entering the final year of his rookie contract).

They have setup a mutual hedge.
