What Are We Doing At TE This Year?

Ugh...I hate trying to draft a TE.

All the hype, all the false projections, all the speculation. How many times have you heard "He'll Be The Next Gronk"? Kelce was one of the next Gronks. Currently going in the 6th round behind Coby "friggin" Fleener.

Seriously, what's the next pick behind Gronk? According to Evan Silva, it's Jordan Reed Followed immediately by Tyler Eifert in the 3rd round. C'mon. Both of them are made of glass.

3rd is where sane folks are picking their WR2 or RB2.

Here is a question: If the TE position were replaced by a flex...RB/WR/TE, how many times do you see yourself starting a TE in that spot? (not counting Gronk, of course). Bye week fill in?

I seriously don't know how to manage this position when it comes to drafting. It's a real spot with real value but how much is to be gained by investing heavily in it?

When do you say " I need a TE now"? I wouldn't think the 3rd would be a great investment unless Gronk somehow fell that far.

Can't we treat a TE kind of like a kicker? It's a position you have to have and you want a good one, but can't it wait until you're fully stocked elsewhere? 6th round maybe? 7th?

Seems to me like the best TEs come from the worst offensive teams. (no...not Gronk). Barnidge was a great TE last season and wasn't drafted in most leagues. Reed was a late round crap shoot.

ASJ, Ebron and Ertz seem to always go off the board before others and what has THAT netted you? But again this year, it's Ertz' breakout season and Ebron will explode without Calvin.....blah, blah, blah.

I think we should make TE a flex but make it TE/K. Heck, a second K would at least be good for 4 or 5 points.

I like the breaking up of the 2 TEs from Indy. Fleener goes away and let's Dwayne Allen get all the TE love in Indy now. Meanwhile, Fleener gets to go play with Drew Bree's. I like both of these guys.

Middle to late rounds. Good value. Big upside

To me the key is how much is the TE used? Indy has not been TE specific since years ago, they run the passing game through the wr core. Is that due to talent or plan, you don't know, but I have no reason to believe in the TE till its proven.

Guys I look at post Gronk:

Delanie Walker Ten - his Qb is young and looking for the open guy, and the Wr core is still very unproven
Greg Olsen Car - he is a great receiver, and the offense only has one proven Wr, and he is coming off major knee issue
Jordan Reed Was - yes he is fragile, but when in, he is a major target of Cousins, and he is dynamic with the ball
Greg Barnidge Cle - who the heck else is there to catch the damn ball????
Eifert Cin - I would drop him lower, as he already has an injury...but AJ is all alone at Wr.
Kelce - value dropped with acquisition of Maclin, but still growing in the offense.

Two guys that really intrigue me are Ertz and Fleener - KC offense will be run in Philly, and he is the lead Te now, and Wrs are not established yet. And will Fleener be able to be the next Graham? I don't think so, but it will be fun to see.

so to answer the next question, I see Gronk going late 1st to early 2nd, I would not take any of these until early 4th. But that is just me. I also would probably wait, as most of these will be close together in scoring, so you could wait til 5-7th round to get the same basic guy.

I made a very big bet against a TE the other night at the poker table. A big Packers homer shot his mouth off about how Jared Cook would be a top 5 fantasy TE this year. I've got $500 that he's not.

This dude was pretty convinced though. Wondering if anyone else likes Cook as much as he does. Could be a pretty decent late pick

I wish I had a nickel for every time I heard Cook will be a stud Te, I could retire now. He isn't all that, and after all the teams he has been on, it can't be system driven, add to that GB is not TE driven anymore, its runs through the Wr, so I don't ever see the GB te being Chmura again.

So yeah, take the bet, I would.

I told this bet to my 4 buddies who are all fantasy nuts. They all liked my side of the bet.

When was the last time any TE in GB was top 5? When was the last time Jared Cook did anything besides 1 flashy game?

TE IMO is a lot like QB in 12 team leagues... Enough supply to wait until your comfotable with your RB's and WR's and grab in the middle rounds (5-9). However, there is enough upside from the position to make sure you get a nice combo with upside if you do this get a top one.

Fleener gets his chance to live up to the hype, considering that Watson was the #7 TE last year, I think he's a good mid Rd target. Walker is underappreciated again as some have pointed out. Cook is sure to flop... Again!

Here are 3 high upside TE's to keep an eye on, they could significantly out perform their draft position:

LaDarius Green - Pit - high octane offense - check. QB who knows how to use a TE - check. Athletic TE who has shown flashes in the past - check. The upside is there, could be a breakout season for Green.

Dwayne Allen - We finally get 1 TE in Indy, I think he delivers if he can actually stay healthy... That's a big if.

Clive Walford - Oak - want a late round flyer that could pay off big time? Look no further than Walford. Very athletic kid in a rising offense, could be worth a low risk shot.

Doesn't Oakland have another young decent TE on the roster? Rivera?

Ladarius Green is an interesting choice. You'd think he should at least equal Heath Millers output (which is pretty meh).

I love Fleener, I like Dwayne Allen. Really happy that those guys got split up

Yes, Riveria is there, but that is a pretty mediocre talent in the way. It's a late round flyer for a reason, but there are some signs for hope here.

I will likely draft Gronk or wait a long time. Jordan Reed was a beast last year but I've been burned a couple times and his price will be high this year

I hate tes also. I like Julius Thomas this year if price is low enough. Haven't been following any apps yet. Planning on starting soon. Hoping he can be had in 9th round

What are everyone's thoughts on Eric Ebron this year?

The guy was a top ten 1st Rd pick back in 2014 by the Lions... No more Megatron... Jim Bob Cooter has said he expects bigger things from Ebron but should we expect him to be a fantasy contributor?? He can be had on the cheap that's for sure.

Not buying. hype has been there since he came in and he's yet to take advantage. As deep as the position is there are just many more TE's I'd rather take a shot at than Ebron.

I think Ebron might be worth a shot, only if you have a very deep league. It does take TEs longer to develop.
