Weight Watcher: NYJets RB Shonn Greene

The New York Jets could have some concern about RB Shonn Greene's weight during the lockout because he is working out on own and he has dealt with some weight issues in the past. Analysis: Greene is poised to be the starting running back for the Jets at some point but a weight issue could cause the runner a setback. Look for Greene to continue to split carries with LaDainian Tomlinson until he proves he can carry more of a load then he did last season. Many of us Fantasy Footballers expected Greene to move right in and take over. But that wasn't the case and know we know that weight may have been a issue. We also have these remarks that are timed closely to this disclosure.

Jets Offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer praised rookie running back Bilal Powell, according to Rich Cimini of ESPN New York. Schottenheimer said, "He had a terrific, breakout year (at Louisville). You’re talking about an explosive runner that has great vision, great balance, he’s a finisher. I think he had five or six runs over 50 yards. A dynamic young back."

Sounds like a bit of a warning to Greene not to show up overweight. The Jets have also shown that they will use any RB that is playing well.

I hear that the weight gain for McCoy is all muscle. Now I wonder if it was his table muscles that were getting the workout.

Lesean McCoy originally was talking about 8-9 lbs but has since come back and said it was only 1-2 lbs and no big deal.

I have followed Greene since he was in High School. I have seen him overcome again and again to get to where he finished in college and to where he is today. I honestly can not see him letting his weight stop him.

...then again he always seemed to like to put himself in a hole of his creating then bursting back out of it and then some.

Tell that fool to put down the friend chicken and malt liquor and go for grilled chicken and water. Plenty of time to party when the career is done.

Other players have done it. I dont see why the alleged feature back of a Super Bowl contender cant do the same.

I'll throw some positive press in the thread.

New York Jets offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer said RB Shonn Greene will be the team's primary running back next season and could receive 18 to 20 carries per game. Schottenheimer said the team believes Greene is ready to take the next step in his development. "He's just gotten better year in and year out. His durability this year was outstanding. You just see the confidence in his eyes. His ability to pick up pass protection stuff has been terrific the last couple years. We expect a breakout season from him. He's a guy that's got just huge, huge, huge potential that we think is right there ready for him to grab," Schottenheimer said.
