EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- The Jason Garrett era had a minor issue before the opening kickoff.

CBS 11 and the Dallas Morning News reported prior to Sunday's Cowboys-Giants game that starting running back Marion Barber violated the Cowboys' new dress policy, and was benched for it.

Garrett, who took over Monday when coach Wade Phillips was fired, wants his players to dress professionally, meaning suit and tie and no tennis shoes for road games.

Barber wore jeans, an untucked shirt and blazer on the team charter, according to reports and eyewitness accounts. After the game, a number of players wore suits and ties with dress shoes. Prior to the new dress policy being put in place this week, some players already wore suit and ties with dress shoes to games such as Bradie James, Roy E. Williams and Jason Witten.

Garrett said Barber didn't violate any team rules.

"I don't know anything about that, whatever that was," said Jerry Jones, who noted he was not on the team charter. "I have no details about it. It's probably good they are working through those matters without any input [from me]."

However, Barber, who became the full-time starter at running back in 2008, didn't start the game. Instead, Felix Jones earned the start, which was by design, according to Garrett, because it was the first play in the Cowboys script.

"We like Felix running that play," Garrett said.

Jones gained 10 yards on a running play toward the left side.

Barber came in on the next play and carried the ball three consecutive times before the Cowboys were forced to punt on their opening possession of the game. When asked if Barber was benched, Garrett said, "Marion was in on the second play."

Barber, as his custom, declined to speak with reporters. Barber's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, didn't return a phone call seeking comment on the possibility of his client violating team rules.

Jones rushed 14 times for 51 yards and had three catches for 85 yards including a 71-yard touchdown. Barber had eight carries for 47 yards and no touchdowns.

As a unit, the Cowboys rushed for 103 yards, the first time they've reached the century mark in the last four games.

Screw Barber. Should have left him on the bench.

A look into the mind of Marion Barber

1st Down - Take handoff from Kitna. See hole open off left tackle. Start that way but change mind..... that safety looks pretty mean.... Run into weakside LB cutting back off right guard. 2 yds.

2nd Down - Take handoff from Kitna. Praying hole develops. Begin practicing for Dancing with the Stars. Hit by LB in backfield. -1 yd loss.

3rd Down - Take handoff from Kitna. Garrett looks mad over there. Worry about being traded to the Panthers. Thinking I should probably hit the hole over left guard, but Ive been dancing around too much thinking about all this shit.... Hit by SLB. 3 yard gain.

4th Down - Sitting on bench. Looks like Jones is going in next series. Thinking about kickin it with Choice on the bench, but hes mad because I make a ton of Jerry's money to do jack.

IRVING, Texas -- Dallas Cowboys running back Marion Barber was fined an undisclosed amount for failing to comply with interim coach Jason Garrett's new dress code for charter flights, according to two sources.

Garrett, who has stressed discipline since taking over for fired head coach Wade Phillips last week, requires players to wear a sportscoat, tie, slacks and dress shoes on charter flights. Barber, a team captain, wore a sportscoat, untucked shirt with no tie, jeans and sneakers on the Cowboys' flights to and from New Jersey this weekend.

Barber was one of several players fined for various disciplinary infractions, according to the sources. Barber, who usually ignores the NFL's rules regarding media access, declined to comment after the 33-20 win over the New York Giants.

"We lay out expectations for our players for all different kinds of behaviors," Garrett said Monday. "There will be consequences if they don't follow those procedures, and we'll keep those consequences in-house."

Barber did not start for the first time this season, but Garrett said that was not a punitive action. Garrett said the first play of the game was designed for Felix Jones, who gained 10 yards on a run to the left side. Barber entered the game on the next play and had three consecutive carries.

Garrett said Barber would remain a captain. However, Garrett acknowledged that captains embracing the things he emphasizes and serving as an example for the rest of the team is "an important part of the process."

Marion Barber will go into the record books at the greatest running back to never rush for 1000 yards in a season, LOL.

But he runs hard!

What has happened to Barber? He once ran like a man pocessed and now looks like a cheerleader when he's got the ball.

When a kid stands in one place and stomps his legs like crazy, he gets put in "time out". When Barber does it, it makes him a team captain. Kinda strange.
