There is no way Jerry gets rid of Wade with the Super Bowl in Dallas next year.

The Dallas Morning News reports Cowboys owner and GM Jerry Jones once again stopped short of saying HC Wade Phillips would be back, when interviewed on the postgame show. He did say he would meet with Phillips tomorrow. He said, "I'm not going to get into the staff tonight." He added,"We had more success than generally we were expected to have. I'm proud of that."

There should be changes, but that isn't one of them.

  • -- Cowboys Likely to Extend HC Wade Phillips --
    Sun Jan 17, 2010 --from FFMastermind.com
  • ESPN's Adam Schefter reports for all the midseason speculation that the Dallas Cowboys would decline a one-year option for 2010 in HC Wade Phillips' contract, it's now more likely he will wind up landing an extension, sources close to the situation have said. The thinking is obvious. Phillips has won this season, proven his worth and made it a foregone conclusion that Cowboys owner and GM Jerry Jones would keep him. But at least one year could be tacked on to the option year for subtle reasons. A potential 2011 work stoppage looms over the league and affects how almost every NFL owner views his head coach. Any coach that has one year on his contract will make it difficult for a team to get rid of him. If the work stoppage many are predicting does materialize, then teams will need coaches who know their players and players who know the coach's system. A coaching change at that time could be destructive, and teams know it. So coaching hot seats will likely be much fewer this time next year, assuming the work stoppage continues to hang over the league.

As far as I am concerned, this is not news. Jerry is the GM, and it would be stupid of him to confirm any kind of decision like this right after this loss. he shouldn't be expected to confirm or deny something like this, and questions like this being made to him is poor journalism as far as I am concerned.

My post is meant as support for Wade and jerry, as I agree that it is poor cheap journalism. Jerry will keep his Coach ESPECIALLY in the year he hosts the SuperBowl.

Cowboys give Phillips a three-year deal
Posted by Mike Florio on January 21, 2010 12:18 PM ET
The Dallas Cowboys held an option on Wade Phillips' contract for 2010.

As expected, owner Jerry Jones has decided to pick up the option.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Jones also has added two years to the deal.

So it's a three-year contract (or a two-year extension), which puts Phillips under contract through 2012.

And, as we mentioned a little bit ago, the devil will be in the details. For example, the final year of the new contract might also be an option year, which would allow the Cowboys to walk away with no financial obligation.

Regardless, Wade will be back next year.

And Giants, Redskins, and Eagles fans suddenly feel a little bit better about their day.
