Why Miami is in trouble - Investigations - Yahoo! Sports

The allegations made by Yahoo Sports against the Miami Hurricanes is devastaing.

Years of player pay offs, bounties, all manner of impermissable extra benifits to the football and basketball teams, and even an abortion paid for by a booster who funneled millions from a Ponzi scheme to Miami players.

If proven true, this is the worst trouncing of NCAA rules since SMU, and a case worthy of the feared NCAA Death Penalty.

Read up and stay tuned Outlaws, because heads are about to roll on South Beach.

Yep this story will be intersting to follow. Been trying to keep up with what has been posted so far. This could be much worse than what SMU got in penalties. SMU still hasnt recovered completly and that was how many years ago? Yeah there starting to win games again, finally, but its been along road to travel.

If the NCAA doesnt kill Miami over this, theyve lost all credibility IMO, and I think the eventual secession of the top 60 football powers from the NCAA will kick into high gear.

I think that the NCAA is going to get as close to killing off Miami as they possibly can. They will cripple the school's programs for the next 10-20 years with post season bans, and scholarship strips. They'll make Miami look so bad, and be so bad, that the ACC will eventually drop them altogether.

Miami is going to suffer like no other program has. SMU may have been killed off for awhile, but Miami wont even be given the satisfaction of the death penalty. They'll survive, but only barely. Just enough so that the entire nation will look down on them for the next couple of decades with a mixture of pity and utter resentment.

THANK YOU U!!! Bout time for the news cycle to shift it's focus to another program....guess this was the MAJOR story rumored just after the Ohio State story broke that stated in the next 6 months a major program was going down hard and it was going to make the Ohio State story look minor in nature.....

Just wish the NCAA would have already rules in the Ohio State case.....

Irionic thing about this whole thing when comparing SMU to UM to me is when SMU did it, they were the best team money could buy and one of the best teams in the nation.(shows the others just paid more than them. lol) and when UM did it or better yet all the years they have done it, they were just better than the average teams in my opinion. They just never came to be the dominate team SMU did. And you know the thinking of them doing this was trying to keep up with UF and FSU in terms of quality players. Now UF/FSU will enjoy the arrivals from UM after their demise. Man can't wait. UF needs some of those top talent money guys.

SMU was as close to a pro football team as they could buy. The players there had actual "contracts".

Miami, had this been even a one time major thing, wasnt that bad, but I think Miami is worse because, as stated, its been a constant at that program for 30 years.

@ Runnik, Ive heard 10 scholarships over 4 years, a 4 year post season ban, 4 year TV ban, and forfeiture of everything as a bare minimum. I think thats not nearly enough. This program deserves the death penalty, but if they wont I think 25 schollys over 4 years, 6 year post season ban, 4 year TV ban, repayment of all bowl monies earned, and no out of conference games during the post season ban.

why no out of conference games? dont think ive heard of that one being suggested. wonder if the desicion the ncaa makes upon miami will have any effect towards ohio st. meaning will they install stiffer penalaties on ohio st than originally planned. do agree with the death penalty and harsh measures against ohio st also by the ncaa to make a point to other teams/schools doing this, just not being caught yet. Maybe use these two schools as an example.

The conference guys have to be able to play them if they dont get the death penalty, but Miami doesnt need to profit one cent off out of conference trips to anywhere or any revenue from home games.

Ah now i got it. Sounds like a plan. Any idea when a desicion is going to be made about this?

Yeah its a damning article.....

Id figure the NCAA will have something out before bowl season. They need to give Miami recruits a month or two to take other offers if they are going to kill them (or make them wish they were dead).
