The Dallas Cowboys are 90 percent certain quarterback Tony Romo will not require surgery to repair his fractured left collarbone, a source close to the situation said Tuesday.

The team is awaiting the results of a CT scan to confirm that diagnosis.

Even without surgery, the Cowboys expect Romo to miss a minimum of six weeks, and he's more likely to be out eight weeks, according to sources.

It is possible that Romo will not play again this season since that timetable would not permit him to return to the lineup until mid-December. At that point, the Cowboys would probably be inclined to hold Romo out to avoid the potential of him re-injuring the shoulder, unless backup Jon Kitna puts the Cowboys in playoff contention during Romo's absence.

The Cowboys are 1-5 for the first time since 1989, when owner/general manager Jerry Jones' first Dallas team finished 1-15.

It doesnt make sense for them to bring him back. Let me him sit and rehab until next season. They will not make a push for the playoffs when he gets back and if they are, then the guy at the helm had to do a hell of a job Qbing them there so let him play. Personally, I think they should start McGee from Tex A&M and see if he is worth keeping as a backup since they wont win many games with Kitna anyway. The real question is f Wade Phillips is off of the hook for this terrible let down season or will the blame shift to Romo's injury. Also I think Jerry Jones goes after Ryan Mallett early in next year's draft.
