Time to Groh? Virginia embarresed by William & Mary

Al Groh's dream job was being head coach of the Virginia Cavaliers.

This dream has officially turned into a nightmare.

1AA William & Mary forced a whopping SEVEN turnovers out of Virginia's new spread offense, including 3 by CB BW Webb as the the Tribe shocked the Cavaliers 26-14 Saturday.

The game was back and forth until the late 4th QTR, with William and Mary keeping up by kicking field goals and forcing turnovers. Virginia meanwhile managed to suck in all phases.

The Cavs used 3 QBs in the game, who combined tossed 3 interceptions and barely completed 50% of their passes. The Tribe held the Cavs to 268 yards of total offense.

Yet still Virginia managed to stay in the game until BW Webbs 3rd interception of the day with 2:49 left. The Tribe star took the interception 50 yards untouched to the house and up the tunnel to put the finishing touches on Al Grohs biggest embarresment to date.

So is time to Groh Al?

My jaw dropped when I seen this score. Game not televised in the Tidewater Area (and Charlottesville is 3 hours away). Worse defeat in 2 decades for Virginia.

And yes, Groh was on the hot seat before the season started....

A poor debut for the spread | Charlottesville Daily Progress

Virginia’s new spread offense laid an egg large enough to cover the Commonwealth in omelet Saturday night in a mistake-riddled, 26-14 home loss to William & Mary.

This was supposed to be the debut of a devastating weapon, something akin to college football’s version of Star Wars, unleashed against what was supposed to be an undermanned FCS opponent for a test run.

Jimmye Laycock’s Tribe didn’t get the message. Rather, Laycock and his coaching staff put together a brilliant game plan aimed at taking away favored Virginia’s advantages.

What neither Laycock or Virginia coach Al Groh counted on were a plethora of Cavalier turnovers.
