Things noticed in week 1

Detroit's defense is still really bad, their offensive however is still..well.. kinda bad. 15 carries for Kevin Smith and he gains 20 yards. Yikes. Matthew Stafford also played very very poorly against a very average defense.

Drew Brees is pretty good.

Kyle Orton relies on flukes to get stats. This whole unit looked like crap.

Mike Turner's play was very pedestrian. Tony Gonzalez is stealing his thunder already.

Either Atlanta's defense played really good or the mystique of the Miami offense has worn off.

Jake Delhomme is a worthless piece of garbage. Steve Smith's value is plummeting.

Philly's defense is still really really good. So is the Jets.

David Garrard needs to find his WRs.

Jason Campbell needs to find a new job.

Arizona starts the Super Bowl let down. Tim Hightower is your leading receiver? Who the hell is the OC in this mess?

Jay Cutler is obsessed with completing every pass, even if to the other team.

Chicago WRs are really really lost. It seems Ron Turner has forgotten about throwing to Forte.

Adrian Peterson is unstoppable. He's going to do amazing things this year.

St Louis. Oh man.

TO who? Crayton, Austin, and Roy all go deep.

Super sleeper Felix Jones? Still sleeping.

Super sleeper Ray Rice? Awake, but falls asleep in the RZ.

Anthony Gonzalez... you broke my heart.

Donovan McNabb...you broke your ribs.

The Houston offense did not represent the "#1 Juggernaut" rankings that Yahoo game them.

Aaron Rodgers likes to take LOTS of big shots down field.

Brian Urlacher likes to put big shots on Aaron Rodgers.

San Francisco is going to win a lot of ugly games this year.

Kansas City is going to be a fantasy football buffet for opponents this year.

- The Cowboys showed us another perfect example of addition by subtraction.
- The Bengals are still bad.
- The NFC North is gonna be a dogfight!
- When you throw 6 Td's in a game and 5,000 yards of passing in a season, you can support plenty of fantasy owners.
- I was very happy for Caddy!
- Sure seems like a lot of badasses on Defense this year. What are they feeding them?
- KC played better on the road in Baltimore then I expected.
- Denver is gonna go 3-0
- Oakland is HORRIBLE!! oops.....that game hasn't played yet. How can they be 0-1 already then? :p
- It always seems like Lovie Smith is on the wrong side of a review.
- The NFC East could be pretty good too.
- Jake Plummer is better than Jake Delhomme
- Plenty of GOOD games in week 1, starting with the Steelers win, and finishing with the Packers win. I don't think the Bills will fare well and the Raiders already lost.....see above
- Schaub is worthless
- The 27 points by the Lions vs. the Saints. Was that good or is the Saints Def not any better?
- How did the Browns score 20 vs the greatest Defense ever? I don't think they would have put up 20 vs. the Pack or the Bears.
- Farve likes Harvin
- No way the Texans go even 8-8.
- Very quietly it seems, there were 13 unsuccessful FG attempts so far. WTF?

* When given consistent carries, Julius Jones performs very well ;)
* Wade Phillips has tons of things to fix on defense, particularly that massive running lane being left wide open up the middle.
*The Saints defense will again be their downfall
*There doesn't appear to be a dominate AFC South team, at least so far
*Nick Folk may be the best field goal kicker in the league
*1 week of the regular season, and the scoreboard wasn't an issue ;)

- I noticed that all the talking heads are applauding Dallas' offense and declaring them a powerhouse after playing what may be the worst defense in the NFL. How many other NFL teams could you complete a 42, 66, and 80 yard pass play in the same game. Come back and talk next week.

- I noticed that as badly as Detroit's offense played they still managed to score 27 pts on what is supposed to be a revamped and improved defense.

Very good point. I went away from that game wondering what to expect in the coming weeks from Dallas in terms of offense.

That said, if the officials had actually called Ronde Barber for the multiple times he was molesting receivers, the score may have been much higher. Crayton came back from routes multiple times with his jersey pulled completely off his shoulder pads.

Taking Terrell Owens off the field, at least in the short term, seems to have completely opened up the field for Romo. And as impressed as I was with how well Terrell Owens blocks downfield for running backs and receivers, I am even more impressed with the blocks that Roy Williams throws down for his fellow player. Heck, even Romo was getting on on some of the blocking (which scares the hell out of me :))

All that said, I need to see a couple weeks progress to see how good this offense is, and at the same time, how good Tampa Bay is. I think the Bucs are a better team that most predict them to be.

Detroits O still sucked man. 20 carries for 29 yards among all their runners. Their QB goes 16 of 37, 43%, no TD, 3 INT, QB rating of 27.

"Its An Outrage"
The possibility of two 0-16 teams, Lions & Rams.

The Officiating cant get an obvious late hit call flagged, ask the Eagles.

A lot has already been covered in this thread already.

  • The WR - WR draft theory took it in the groin this week.

I think I would have to give the nod in that game to the Lions. Rams look extremely bad. You would think they could have turned at least one Seahawks turnover into 3 points at least.

If you can't see the lining you are simply not looking.

Kevin does need a time-share in the backfield but if you can not see that Stafford did quite well in his debut where the entire production was placed on his shoulders feel free. Our little Matty DID throw a TD pass to Calvin but the ref stole it from him.

Both lines were disappointing even though their pieces and parts are mostly short term answers.

The rookie Delmas looked sweet on that interception return but can anyone fill me in on Buchanon's absence from the starting line up?

They tried...but Josh Brown missed a 37 yard FG Attempt. His return to the Quest Field was memorable....to say the least
