Lots of moves by easily the most active team today. Lets round up there transactions.

TE Ben Hartsock has agreed to terms on a 2-year deal with the Panthers.

Dwill obviously

K Mare agrees to a 4-yr deal for $12 million with a $4 million signing bonus.

The Panthers persuaded Johnson, their prized defensive end, to agree to a contract worth $72 million over six years, including a $30 million signing bonus.

Yeah no kidding...if they are spending that much on a kicker...who knows how much they will spend on Smith or a CB

The DeAngelo Williams contract is absurd. If he's demanding that much money/years I'd just let him walk. He's a 28 year old running back with maybe 3 good years left.

I wonder how much of this is legitimate strategy and how much of this is so they can cover the new league minimum cap. They may just be spending $ for the sake of it.

I completely agree. It's great to have Williams staying but he wasn't needed. I would much rather see that money going towards areas of need like the secondary or receivers...

Panthers linebacker James Anderson stays. He gets $22 million over five years with $8.5 million in guarantees...good lord. They wanna pay me?

I don't think there's any question that it's just to spend the league minimum. They, like every other team, had a list of players and the priority they had set to resigning them. I'm guessing they had a number of years in their heads for each player that they wanted that was negotiable with each players individual agent, and when the guys in suits came out of their room with the new deals signed they had to make sure they were paying enough to cover the new cap floor.

This goes to show that you only get one shot at your first year as a Coach. Most jobs are this way......shoot for the moon the first year because you never get another one!
