The Niners grab QB Colin Kaepernick.

In the first major move of the Jim Harbaugh era, the 49ers traded up in the second round to take Nevada quarterback Colin Kaepernick with the 36th overall pick in the NFL draft. They gave Denver their second- (45th overall), fourth- (108th) and fifth-round (141st) picks to move up.
General manager Trent Baalke and Harbaugh have spent most of the offseason doing their homework on quarterbacks. It also sounds like the team made an overture to QB A.Smith whowas at the team's facility working out and was scheduled to meet with Harbaugh, who has made it known he would like the team to reunite with the 2005 No. 1 overall pick. Smith is a free agent and his possible return in a caretaker role could allow Kaepernick the time needed to develop into an NFL quarterback.

ugh. If you want a mobile, accurate small school quarterback, just trade for Josh Johnson.

6"5', rocket arm, mobile and smart. Yeah, he can't possibly be any good because he played at a small school...............

If Harbaugh like him, that's enough for me. Guy knows QBs.

My point is Josh Johnson is a good quarterback, from a small school - AND already familiar with Harbaugh AND has gotten acclimated to NFL speed.

I think this pick was awful. Kaepernick is no NFL starter, IMO. In fact, some QBs taken after him are better, IMO.

Post Your Top 15 QBs!!!
1. Cam Newton, Auburn
2. Ryan Mallett, Arkasas
3. Blaine Gabbert, Missouri

Man, those GMs are just plain stupid. Drafting QBs high when Ricky Stanzi was still there. IDIOTS!

No offense, but I'll roll with Harbaughs opinion on a QB over yours............

Well, my guess is Harbaugh thinks Colin is better than Josh Johnson.

Johnson has shown about as much as Kolb however. Just don't know why he would be considered a better option because he has a couple starts in the NFL.

We'll see how it works out...........

Thought this was an interesting thread to revisit. Care to reevaluate?

While QBs are still a work in progress at this point in their careers, I seriously doubt SF would trade Kaepernick for any QB in this group including Newton right now................
