The Jimmy Graham $$ Debate

So.....Mike Wallace, an above average traditional WR commands $12 mil per and Graham, more talented and far more valuable as an offensive weapon does not?

Come on now......some things are simple, this is simple.....pay him for his results and continue to have one of the best offensive playmakers in the league on your team and happy.

One would wonder if Mike Wallace would have been more of a major player on the Saints. You can't just do that. You have to account for what the offense is designed to do. And yes, before you ask, it was designed due to his abilities in N.O., but that is because they expect the S or LB to cover the.....wait for it...TE.

Sorry nothing you have stated changes my point of view. He is without a doubt the top TE right now. He is equivalent to what Gates was, and Gonzales was, and the much more underated Witten was. Does not mean he should be given A.J. or Megatron money. No where close.

And where did I say AJ or Megatron? I have said $12 mil per....and he's worth it.

He is an elite pass catcher, period. I don't care who covers him (though CB's cover him far more than you are admitting) or what his position is.....the going market for top pass catchers was set last year around $12 mil with the Wallace deal....now If you were him why would you take less?

Even if you compare him to Gronk's 9 per year. That deal is now 2 years old I think, was signed after just 2 years and if for a fragile elite pass catcher. So given the increases we have seen in the cap over the last couple years, the more proven nature of Graham at this point in his career and the more durable player, I am not sure that $12 is even a stretch when you compare it to just the best TE.

But nothing either of us says will change the others opinion.....fun debate, but we are just on opposite sides.

Uh, no, Gronk re-signed last year I thought, which really hurts as it was his first big salary year and he was hurt most of it. Not sure on that though.

I also state AGAIN, N.O. has already offered him MORE than Gronk, and Graham turned it down. Again, GREED.

Again, we agree to disagree, and I am a fan of Graham, but don't whine to fans about how sad you are for the team, when its your own damn fault.

Yeah....again your wrong. Gronk signed a 6 year, 54 mil deal in June of 2012.

And he deserves to make much more than the Gronk deal for the simple reasons stated above. Also deserves a deal equal to or better than the 5 yr 60 mil deal signed by Mike Wallace a year ago.

Now I don't disagree on the whining, though I think their some posturing there...but still, could have used without it.....but that doesn't change his market value one cent!

Seriously....let the guy go.

Don't tag him, don't make an offer, let him walk.

Good for Graham, good for the Saints.

Saints will need blocking Te's anyway with their new "ball control" scheme.

That is an interesting question. I believe they can rescind the tag if they want. Not sure on that though.

I think there would be a huge revolt in N.O. if they did it. Then again, if he gets paid what Miller wants, they still have to cut more from the cap anyway.

I know, why don't they cut Brees, that way they can pay what Miller suggests??

Ok.....so tell me, where does he line up on the field the vast majority of the time? If he is not a receiver, maybe someone should tell the Saints, because they sure play him as a receiver an awful lot.....

If he does not have the talent of a receiver, then why do DC's put a CB on him to try to contain him?

His "ability" if far superior to 95% plus of the receivers playing the game. In fact, there are very few receivers that can do what he can do. Speed is not everything, ask Jerry Rice. The greatest WR to ever play was far from the fastest.

He is an elite pass catcher....period. Forget the titles and pay him for what he actually does.

Gonzales and Gates both lined up more than 50% of their plays last year out wide but I haven't seen anyone call either of these aged super stars at their positions a WR.

We'll have the official answer pretty soon and I still say he is a TE. He say's he's a TE on hi Twitter Bio. He goes to meetings with the TE's. He was drafted as a TE and called a TE on draft day. Now folks there's TE's and then there's really good TE's much like there's QB's and then there's the Payton Manning's of the world. He deserves to be the highest paid TE and that's what he turned down but will end up getting. Still it'd be cool if you could play him at TE or at WR in fantasy football. :)

Saints signed Jimmy Graham to a multi-year contract.

Graham broke the news on his Twitter account: "It's official. I'm bleeding black and gold this morning! Thank you WhoDatNation for all the support." All major news outlets and Graham's agent, Jimmy Sexton, have confirmed a long-term deal has been reached ahead of Tuesday afternoon's 4 PM ET deadline. Once the numbers are in, Graham will be the league's highest-paid tight end. We can all breathe; Graham will be listed as a tight end in fantasy.

4 yr 40 mil, 21 guaranteed....interesting that the guaranteed money is LESS than Vernon Davis received (23 mil).

He Will be able to be a FA again at age 30.

Yup, he got solid Money. Now he has to go out and produce as he has in the past, I need him desperately in HG.

I've got this feeling that we've seen his best already. As a Saint fan I hope I'm wrong but teams are learning how to deal with his couple of good routes. He has to get better to produce as he has in the past. Plus he needs to quit dropping passes that hit him in the hands. That by itself would be a heck of a plus. I watch every play the Saints run and while I'm not worried that he's going into the tank I expect his numbers to dip.
