Steelers' Harrison debunks White House visit

What WesDawg said, and because I feel that an invitation to the White House should be considered an honor by anyone invited.

The invitation is an honor but not if it is not an invitation but an order.

He's not obligated to go, but he's a D Bag for not going.

I can tell you this, if I was invited to come to the White House because of some accomplishment in my line of work, my ass would be on the front 40 at dawn. Me and the Prez are gonna take some pics and have some drinks!

If he is a D Bag it is not because he passed on this opportunity. This is not about what you or I would do but the right of others to do something else.

He didn't even cite a political reason for skipping the visit, which I suppose would be somewhat understandable.
Instead, he for some bizarre reason went the "disrespected" route.
Putting yourself above your team isn't a real adept maneuver right after you were rewarded handsomely by said team with an elite contract.

I can agree it strikes as bizarre but so what? Declining an invitation is putting yourself above your team? Whether it is adept or not your employer should not have that much interest in your personal life and as I remember Harrison negotiated a contract that matched what he provided the team on the field - why is that not enough?

I'm blaming this post on GBG for learn'n me how to do the cut and paste for quotes thing.:)

Nope. Doesn't work like that. If someone does something different from how I would do it, they're automatically a D Bag.

And by the way, Cooley Cadets is completely wrong in his opinion on this matter.
Those that agree with me are correct.

That is just how it works here people!

I'm useless here.

I feel this way all the time. :koolaid:

I think I am beginning to see the cause for your particular dill-enema Mike. Post CC with 2 Thank You's and forget about calling in the morning.

What are you doing Mike? Stay away from my quote option man, I'm serious you do NOT want to do this. Don't even think about making me come over there and paraphrasing you.

This is so stupid. He's just trying to get attention. STFU and go to the White House. It's tradition. I mean hell, the Lions don't play on Thanksgiving because they're good, they do it because it's tradition. Every year the SB winners are invited to the White House. That's an unbelievable honor. Making the argument that the President would have invited whomever won to go to the White House is like saying "I refuse to accept the Lombardi trophey, and a SB ring, because the NFL would have given them to whomever won, and not because they like the Steelers." Get off of your high horse, Harrison and be prepared to step aside to a new defensive player of the year, because you will not win it again.

Why you gotta drag the good name of that Detroit based football franchise into this argument. That sir is uncalled for and worthy of more discussion than someone not coming over to tea.

Don't know why this is getting so much play - if I recall, just about every year there are players that do not go to this. I'm drawing blanks on names because it never registered that it was noteworthy at the time.

I would imagine Emily Post would agree that it would be polite to attend but I do not see any honor involved if it is obligatory.
