'Lingering hip injury' for Rice?

Sidney Rice, WR MIN
News: Agent Drew Rosenhaus posted on Twitter that his client WR Sidney Rice has been dealing with "a lingering hip injury that he suffered in the playoffs." Rosenhaus also posted that Rice "does not have a groin injury and has not had surgery" but did add that Rice "does not anticipate that this injury will require surgery and he's hopeful that he will be fully healthy for the start of the season." Earlier Thursday, ex-Vikings WR Cris Carter told the Minneapolis Star-Tribune that he was disappointed that Rice didn't work out with him and other NFL players in Minneapolis, questioning his workout habits. Rice worked out with Carter and Fitzgerald last offseason before going on to post career-best totals. "I don't know what it's like to have one good year and then disappear. I don't know what it's like. That's on him. I really don't know," Carter said. "If I had that kind of impact on him he should have been here."

Analysis: Sounds like Rice couldn't make it because he was hurt, and now we don't know the extent of the injury disclosed by Rosenhaus. For now let's give Rice the benefit of the doubt and figure him to participate in training camp with his teammates. But any sort of time missed because of the injury will make us nervous -- his 2008 campaign was destroyed because of a knee sprain that hobbled him for the year, so any hip problems that aren't taken care of before August could be an issue. He remains a No. 1 Fantasy receiver worth a pick between Rounds 3 and 4 -- for now. When we know more, you'll know more.

There's also another possibility as to the reason this story broke yesterday that "could" have nothing at all to do with an injury. Rice has been dogged pretty good for skipping out on the receiver camp that Chris Carter puts on each year. Carter himself questioned his work habbits and went so far as to say that if Rice was happy being a one year wonder then he (Carter) couldn't do anything about it. Perhaps Rice's agent released the story as cover for his player not attending the camp as he was scheduled to do. Of course, if this is the case and he's not injured doesn't that point to him being lazy at the very least?

rotoworld,
Sidney Rice downplayed his agent's report of a lingering hip injury Thursday, insisting he'll be "ready to go" at training camp.

"Everything is alright," assured Rice. "Just being cautious with it. I can run. I'm jogging and sprinting. I'm just not doing a lot of cutting and different things like that." Rice gave no details about the injury, but disclosed that doctors advised him to rest his hip as much as possible during the offseason. The injury shouldn't affect his availability for Week 1, but it's still worth tracking his progress in training camp.

rotoworld,
Sidney Rice (hip) said in an online chat for NFL.com Monday that his goal is to be healthy for Week 1.

"I just want it to be ready for the first regular season game," Rice said, hinting he won't necessarily practice much in camp. "I had a couple of meetings with the doctor and I’m not going to need surgery. I’m just being cautious right now, doing rehab." Rice is still worth monitoring closely. He has a checkered injury history, and his inability to recover to this point is concerning.

rotoworld,
Acknowledging that his hip is not 100 percent, Sidney Rice indicated Wednesday night that he'll need to have the injury checked again by the Vikings' medical staff before returning to practice.

It's been hard to get a handle on Rice's status over the past few weeks. Agent Drew Rosenhaus said he hoped that Rice would be ready for the regular season while the receiver predicted that he's participate in training camp. What's worrisome to us is that the hip is still an issue six months after originally sustaining the injury. The Vikings open training camp Friday afternoon.

Rice commented that the injury is more than just a hip flexor, but he intends on starting in week 1 of the regular season. This is a concerning injury for fantasy owners who expect Rice to finish as a top 10 fantasy wideout this year as long as Brett Favre comes back.

rotoworld,
Sidney Rice (hip) will open training camp on the Vikings' active/PUP list.

He'll be joined by CB Cedric Griffin (knee), as expected. Rice saw three specialists about the hip and considered surgery, but they decided against it. Coach Brad Childress announced that Rice will begin working in conditioning drills. Asked by a reporter where Rice's hip is at -- in terms of progress -- Childress replied "it's on the side of his body." Good one, Chilly.

More ominous details about this elusive injury, this time making it seem like surgery may be a possibility if Rice's hip doesn't improve soon.

Rice's hip, Harvin's headaches, Favre's age, AP's discontent....

Me thinks this house of cards be ready to fall.

Vikes 3rd in the division behind GB and Det?

Wanna bet that million that you're going to take from me?

I'll say they win the division.

You say they take 3rd.

If they come in 2nd or 4th it's a push.

Deal?

(Rotoworld) Vikings coach Brad Childress confirmed Wednesday that Sidney Rice (hip) is "a ways away" from coming off active/PUP. Analysis: Rice has yet to practice in camp, and we had to bump him down a few spots in our latest draft guide rankings. Formerly our No. 9 receiver, he's now No. 14.

(KFFL) Minnesota Vikings head coach Brad Childress said WR Sidney Rice (hip) is a ways away from coming off the Physically Unable to Perform list, reports Judd Zulgad, of the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

First Favre, then rice.....

time to sing:

"the wheels on the bus are falling off, falling off, falling off. The wheels on the bus are falling off, all season long!"

teehee

The Minneapolis Star-Tribune passes along "growing feeling" in Minnesota that Sidney Rice "isn't rushing back" from his hip injury partially due to unhappiness with his contract situation.

Rice, represented by Drew Rosenhaus, will make $550,000 in the final year of his rookie deal. It's a good time to try to cash in after racking up 1,312 yards last year, but the Vikings want to see more than just one good season from Rice, and their hands are somewhat tied by the CBA situation. The team's hope is that Rice returns to action in time for the third preseason game.
