'Lingering hip injury' for Rice?
Sidney Rice, WR MIN
News: Agent Drew Rosenhaus posted on Twitter that his client WR Sidney Rice has been dealing with "a lingering hip injury that he suffered in the playoffs." Rosenhaus also posted that Rice "does not have a groin injury and has not had surgery" but did add that Rice "does not anticipate that this injury will require surgery and he's hopeful that he will be fully healthy for the start of the season." Earlier Thursday, ex-Vikings WR Cris Carter told the Minneapolis Star-Tribune that he was disappointed that Rice didn't work out with him and other NFL players in Minneapolis, questioning his workout habits. Rice worked out with Carter and Fitzgerald last offseason before going on to post career-best totals. "I don't know what it's like to have one good year and then disappear. I don't know what it's like. That's on him. I really don't know," Carter said. "If I had that kind of impact on him he should have been here."
Analysis: Sounds like Rice couldn't make it because he was hurt, and now we don't know the extent of the injury disclosed by Rosenhaus. For now let's give Rice the benefit of the doubt and figure him to participate in training camp with his teammates. But any sort of time missed because of the injury will make us nervous -- his 2008 campaign was destroyed because of a knee sprain that hobbled him for the year, so any hip problems that aren't taken care of before August could be an issue. He remains a No. 1 Fantasy receiver worth a pick between Rounds 3 and 4 -- for now. When we know more, you'll know more.
