Sarges Random Late Night Thoughts - 20 something going on 2

Sgt John

Sith Lord of T&A
VY..grow the hell up. Be a man. A leader doesnt leave his team behind. Michael Vick can show you how to grow up, and Colt McCoy could show you how to act, but nah...youre bigger than everything else. Disgusting. On to the show:

The AFC East -
Miami - This team has no leader. I expected Ronnie Brown to step up, but it seems like the Dolphins have stepped out. Expect the Raiders to run wild this weekend on the Fins. At 5-5, the season is on life support, and its going to take a leader to bring this team back. Right now, I dont see it happening.

Buffalo - If you listened to me about FJax, youre welcome. The Bills are now on a two game win streak, and Steve Johnson has turned into one of the NFLs best WRs. I believe in this case, subtraction (Spiller/Parrish) has led to addition for the offense. They still wont stop a soul on defense, but at least they are competing. This week Buffalo faces Pittsburgh, so dont expect too much.

NY Jets - The Cardiac Jets just keep on finding ways to win. Santonio Holmes has suddenly turned into the game changing WR we expected him to be. At 8-2, the Jets have clear path to the post season, and this week get what should be an easy game on Turkey day against Cincinnati. This should be the game Santonio Holmes hits 10 receptions.

New England - The Pats almost blew it, but held on in the end to keep pace with the Jets. What concerns me about New England is the clear lack of a WR1. Against teams with weaker defenses its going to be ok, but against quality defenses it will be their undoing. Those of you looking to trade for the Law Firm in dynasty or keeper formats remember, every year NE finds one back who steps up, and this is a season played largely without Sammy Morris, Kevin Faulk, and Fred Taylor.

AFC North -
Pittsburgh - Bludgeoned the Raiders last weekend. Looks to me like time has caught up with the fantasy value of Hines Ward. Emmanual Sanders keeps on trucking, and it wouldnt shock me to see him and Mike Wallace open next season as WR1 and WR2. The Steelers are a great football team who will go as far as they let themselves. This week Pittsburgh gets the Bills, so Wallace, Sanders, Mendy, and even Miller should be hot starts.

Baltimore - Ray Lewis and Ed Reed looked like the players of old against the Panthers, but then again who doesnt. Nice game all around, but it concerns me they gave up 120 yds to a 4th string RB with no passing attack. This week Baltimore plays hot young Tampa Bay. This is a game the Bucs could easily win, or a game the Ravens could flex their defensive muscle. All comes down to how Joe Flacco plays.

Cincinnati - Rolled over and died. From a 31-14 lead, the Bengals gave up 35 straight to the Bills. Carson Palmer looks to be headed to the scrap heap, and at this point the Bengals need to make major changes. Cincinnati faces one of the NFLs best teams this week in the Jets, and I expect them to have a pretty bad Thanskgiving.

Cleveland - Colt McCoy had Jacksonville beat, and the defense suddenly went limp. I still think he is the best leader for the Browns, and I still think Cleveland fans need to give up the guy who tackled that poor little boy if there is any decency left in this world. This week McCoy and the Browns face Carolina, and though Im not confident in this, I have a hunch the Browns are going to run wild (start Hillis) on the Panthers. Putting out an APB for Josh Cribbs....the team really needs him on the field.

AFC South -
Houston - You could see the anger in Schaubs eyes when the defense gave up yet another late game TD pass. This is an offense that can hang with the best, and a secondary that could be beat for a TD by the old lady who did the "Where's the Beef?" commercials. Houston may be techincally alive in the division, but in my mind when Santonio Holmes caught that TD, he ended the Texans season. I would not be all that surprised if a guy like Jon Gruden magically appeared at head coach after the season. Kubiak may be an offensive guy, but the defense is going to be his undoing, and the Texans have yet to truly find a coach who will make all that talent turn the corner. This was their best shot to unseat Indianapolis, and Houston has failed.

Titans - Vince Young needs to go. Nevermind a guy named Rusty Smith, who got killed by the Longhorns (and other BCS defenses) now pilots the Titans offense. This circus needs to stop, and Titans ownership needs to back Jeff Fisher and cut their losses. Just imagine what a guy like Jake Locker or Andrew Luck could do with this offense. Hell even a vet like Todd Bouman couldnt be THAT bad with CJ2K in the backfield. At least Randy Moss cant be blamed for this latest disaster.

Indianapolis - Peyton Manning is doing the best he can, but injuries are really hurting this football team. Addai, Clark, Gonzalez, Sanders, and the list goes on and on. No, thats not a Indy Pro Bowl list, thats the injury report. Still, Jacksonville will implode, Tennesee..yeah, and Houston cant stop anyone. Indy is still going to win this division, but dont expect much in the playoffs. Keep Blair White on your teams, as he scored two more scores last week. If you are out of the running, sell high on Jacob Tamme, as Dallas Clark will be back next year, and I dont think the Colts will let such a quality backup slip away. Oh..and Pat Angerer has to be the perfect name for an NFL LB.

Jacksonville - "I expect a competitive game with both teams scoring in the low 20s" Well, I also expected Cleveland to win, but batting .500 aint bad. I still dont have that much faith in Jacksonville, as theyve beat the Browns and the Texans the last two weeks, but at least MJD is producing at the right time for owners. The Jags face the Giants this week, and normally Id expect a bad day, but with the Giants down Steve Smith and Hakeem Nicks, the lack of a NY passing game might keep your Jags fantasy relevant.

AFC West
Kansas City - Where did this WR wearing Bowe's uniform come from, and where did the whining child who used to wear it go? Bowe has at least 1 TD in 6 straight games, 7 of the last 8, and a whopping 11 TDs on the year. This week the Chiefs play the Seattle, so I could easily see a 3 TD game out of Bowe, who has 4 multi score games in the last 6 weeks. If anyone knows what is REALLY wrong with Dexter McCluster, let the rest of us know.

San Diego - Whipped Denver on Monday Night, and now gets back VJax. Rivers is having a great season, and the Chargers have actually been a better team without Ryan Mathews on the field. This week the Chargers face the IRndianpolis Colts, a Colts team that probably wont be able to handle the Chargers offense. I think both teams score in the 30s in this one, but the Chargers, like NE, will jump out early and hold on. Keep an eye on the status of Antonio Gates.

Denver - Who started Moreno? I know someone did, and rode a decent fantasy game while Denver itself got spanked. Kyle Orton had his worst game of the season, and it showed up in the stats of guys like Brandon Lloyd and Jabar Gaffney. This is one of my "momma said their would be days like this" games. Denver this week faces St Louis, and I dont think the Rams are yet ready for this kind of aerial attack. Orton should be back over 300 yards this week, and Brandon Lloyd will be back to chipping in the stats that took you from top of the waiver wire to near the top of your division.

Oakland - Another "Momma said their would be days like this" game. Oakland is better than last year. Oakland is not ready to challenge teams outside the AFC West. This week Oakland travels to Miami to face a team with not alot of balls and alot of questions at key positions. Oakland needs this win, and I think DMac is going to go out and get it for them. I have a hunch Jacoby Ford will do something special in this game, and I sure hope we see the re appearance of Bruce Gradkowski at some point, because he truly is the Raiders best chance to win.

NFC East -
Dallas -If you are only going to catch two passes a game, make them count like Miles Austin did. 14 fantasy points for basically NO work. Dez Bryant is becoming a player to be feared, and so far the Jason Garrett tough guy act is working, though it helps when undrafted FAs like Brian McCann keep taking turnovers and returns coast to coast. This week the Cowboys face a stern test in the defending World Champion New Orleans Saints. I dont think the Dallas secondary can keep up with Brees, but I wouldnt be shocked at all if Dallas scores in the high 20s to the Saints mid 40s. Anyone else notice Roy Williams seems to have clocked out for the year about 3 weeks ago?

Washington - Clinton Portis pretty much sealed his fate when he came up hurt again this week, and I think he will be on the bus out of town with McNabb next year after Snyder pays off the $3.57 buyout in McNabbs $70 something million contract. If you havent noticed, and judging by attendance you havent, Santana Moss has been a pretty reliable fantasy guy all year long. Washington vs Minnesota this week, with new front man Leslie Frazier at the helm. As usual, I cant tell you who to start if you own Redskins, because for all I know the Rat will sign Edgerrin James off the scrap heap and start him at RB, backed up by Shaun Alexander....

Philadelphia - The Eagles managed to dislodge Michael Vicks foot from Washingtons ass and played what I thought was a very impressive game in beating the Giants. I really like how Vick spreads the ball around, the defense does the job, and Mikes legs seal the deal. On paper, this weeks game vs Chicago looks like a real battle. Sarges take: This week Vick and Co expose Chicago as a team thats more lucky than good. Chicago wins off others mistakes (league high 25 takeaways). Here is the thing..the Eagles dont really give the ball away.

New York Giants - Once the best team in the NFC, the Giants have fallen on hard times, and now go without Smith and Nicks. Derek Hagan and Mario Manningham are now the 1/2 guys for Eli. That aint going to cut it. I believe the Giants will beat Jacksonville this weekend, but with such a major deficit in the passing game its going to be a tough road. Start Brandon Jacobs if you own him, because NY needs a bulldozer right now, and Ahmad Bradshaw's frame isnt going to hold up to 30 touches for very long.

NFC North
Chicago - Shut out the Dolphins last week. Chicago leads the NFL in takeaways, but still doesnt strike me as a dominant team. Each week it just seems like the breaks always go Chicago's way, be it turnovers, opponent injuries, hell even coin flips. This week I believe Philadelphia is going to spank the Bears, and only Johnny Knox will be worth starting.

Green Bay - Has now caused the firing of two lame duck coaches in 3 weeks. Also did exactly what I expected, and finished off the Vikings and Brett Favre. Greg Jennings went O-F-F, and I think as the season goes along you will see more games near that caliber. The Pack looks like a Super Bowl contender. Good game this week against Atlanta, who have more than proven they belong in the NFCs playoff talk. I dont see a 3 TD game for Jennings, but he and Rodgers will be too much for the Falcons to handle.

Minnesota - Its all over now but the crying. Zigi Wilf finally did the right thing and fired Brad "Free Candy Van" Childress, promoting Leslie Frazier, oft interviewed but never hired candidate, to interim HC. Frazier faces some issues in the locker room, namely the fact he should start Tarvaris Jackson over Brett Favre if he wants to win. Im not familiar enough with Frazier to know if he can get the Vikes to respond playing just for pride, but he gets a decent shot at a win this week against Washington. Ill have more to say next week on how I think Frazier will do, but all I can tell him is this: Its a long time overdue, and good luck this week.

Detroit - Two bad toes really ruined any shot Detroit had against Dallas. The Lions really need to be careful with Stafford and Best in this lost season. No shame in putting both on IR and having them ready for 2011 when you will be a much better football team. Not sure who will go at RB this week with Best hurt and Kevin Smith on IR. You might see some touches go to Stefan Logan, but against the Patriots I wouldnt even attempt using a Lions RB. Lions fans feeling like pulling out the old paper bag with the eye holes cut out keep the faith, it will get better, and every day without Matt Millen is a good day.

NFC South
Tampa Bay - I am officially impressed. Tampa Bay shut out a pretty good offense in a 21-0 win over SF last weekend. Josh Freeman keeps on truckin, and One Punch Blount is really starting to assert control over the backfield. This week the Bucs play Baltimore, and thought Im not ready to call the upset, I think Tampa Bay will do much better than people think. From a fantasy perspective, id pass on Tampa guys this week. Too much risk.

New Orleans - Looking good after the bye, the Saints trashed the Seahawks. The real games for the Saints start this week with a contest versus Dallas. Keep in mind Dallas has a pretty bad secondary, and Brees has a pretty good offensive line. I think Brees is going to throw for 4 scores, and the TE position for the Saints will produce against old and slow Dallas LBs. I still have no solid status on Reggie Bush, so keep an eye out if you own him, as this would be a game to run with Reggie if he is a go.

Atlanta - No one really did outstanding against the Rams, but the Falcons just kept on imposing their will on the way to a 34-17 win. This week Atlanta faces banged up Green Bay. As previously stated, I think Rodgers and Jennings will be too much for the Falcons, but Roddy White is going to have a big day in his own right. IDP guys keep an eye on the status of John Abraham. If healthy he might get to Rodgers a couple times.

Carolina - Mike Goodson, #4 RB, ran for 120 yards against the Ravens last week, so he looks to be a good start if you can get him (and he still
owns the backfield, especially considering he got his yards with no passing attack) Im not sure if the Panthers will go with Clausen, St Pierre, or Tony Pike this week, but against the Browns it probably wont matter. The Panthers season was long since over, and at this point its all about the draft pick next year.

NFC West
San Francisco - The entire division laid an egg last weekend, and San Franciscos was probably the biggest. Troy Smith + Frank Gore + Vernon Davis + Michael Crabtree X Tampa Bay = 0. As in a freakin shutout. Hopefully this doenst lead Singletary to go back to Alex Smith, because thats not going to help at all. Not to worry fantasy guys, San Francisco gets Arizona on Monday Night. This means San Francisco will probably score 35 points. Crabtree fans keep in mind Dwayne Bowe just caught 2 TDs on this team, who has been giving up 400-500 yards a game defensively.

Seattle - Got bludgeoned by the Saints last weekend. The Hawks cant hang with upper tier teams, so no shocker there. This week Seattle faces Kansas City, who in their own right have had a couple defensive meltdowns. I think Seattle can keep it respectable, but will get behind early and end up throwing the ball most of the game trying to catch up. Hass and Williams should be spot starts if you need them. Past that Seattle doesnt match up well with the youth and speed the Chiefs will bring to the field.

Arizona - A bad defense gets no breaks this week facing the San Francisco 49ers, who will be hungry on Monday night after being embarressed by Tampa Bay last weekend. IDP guys keep an eye on the playing status of CB Greg Toler, who was out with a foot injury and got benched the game before, but has been putting up great days since no one within 15 yards of the enemy offensive line for Arizona plays defense apparently. Fitz will get his, but past that I cant pin point week to week what other Cards skill guy is going to get alot of points. Saw Kurt Warner while my kid was watching the Dancing with the Stars finale tonight, and I found myself begging him to come back.

St Louis - Hung around for a short time, but was overwhelmed by a pretty strong Atlanta Falcons squad last weekend. Danny Amendola is still doing well fantasy wise, but SJax had a bad game last week. St Louis faces Denver this weekend, and since Denver dont play defense, SJax should have a pretty good game. With a pretty depleted LB corps on the field, Daniel Fells might be a good spot TE start if you need it.

Those are my random thoughts for now. Feel free to throw in yours

"Its An Outrage"
Sarge Oakland is at home this week.

"The Black Hole" is planning a ole fashioned fish fry even with J.Campbell starting, D-Mac should get back on track pounding the rock which will help the passing game. Raiders win a close one by a TD

SJax has had another week for his hand to heal and should see him catching the ball more v.s. Denver, San Diego kicked the hell out of the Bronco's, i may be going out on a limb but i see the Rams winning this week.

Buffalo is playing some good ball the last two weeks, the Steelers won v.s. Oakland so what :biglaugh: Buffalo wins at home by 2 TD's

Clara Peller. Sadly, she passed away some time ago, but you've convinced me. I put a waiver claim on her for Houston games. Thanks Sarge!!

Expected my raiders to lose to pittsburg, and possibly get spanked (much like the rest of the world did), but that was a truly pathetic effort.... and wtf was Seymour thinking. Punching a guy in the face for celebrating a TD???? I wish I could come up with any sort of BS to justify it..... :shake:

On the plus side, just 2 weeks from the Wade Phillips lame attitude being removed from Dallas, they are flying high!! I think they will show up on thanksgiving (they usually do), but I hope Gruden takes over at the end of the year so it may not be bad if they lose a few games down the stretch :p

Great stuff as always, Sarge, wanted to kick in the AFLAC trivia question for you this week........

How many home starts has Matt Ryan lost in 3 seasons as the starting QB?

That would be exactly 1, sir. 18-1, to be exact. The Dirty Birds are nigh unbeatable in the dome, and the numbers say you have to roll with them in any home game until teams can start winning in there. I do think Woodson keeps Roddy slowed down somewhat, but you'll see Atlanta's D and unheralded guys like Jenkins, Weems, and Snelling give them enough of a boost to keep rolling over the Pack.
