The AFC East -
Miami - I think people are giving up on Ricky Williams too soon. Ronnie is a wrong blade of grass away from another injury. Chad Henne is wise to keep throwing the ball to Brandon Marshall. He may be an ass, but he can avoid the booze. Starting to wonder why they pay Anthony Fasano.....
Buffalo - Sorry Donte, I laugh at you guys too. Worst team in football with a coach that doesnt belong in a division that you cant possibly compete in. CJ Spillar should be fun until you kill him....
NY Jets - Let me get back to you after I get wasted and drive around town with my ass hanging out the window.
New England - Still the most professional team in the division, but they get this by being..well...old. Welker, Brady, and Moss are no spring chickens, and the defense aint what it used to be. I think the Patriots have one last big run in them.
AFC North -
Pittsburgh - Doesnt seem to matter who they trot out at QB, they just keep winning. I hope Charlie Batch wins this likely last start of his career, especially after reading about what kind of class guy he is. Hines Ward remains the dirtiest player in the game, but hes also one of my favorite players because he gets the job done. This team could win the division or they could finish 6-10. Who knows.
Baltimore - There are no excuses for Joe Flacco. He has a bevy of weapons and the defense has out peformed my expectations. He needs to start performing. Ray Rice rocks. TJ Whoseyomamma was a great pick up, this team doesnt need Donte Stallworth, and Ray Lewis will still hit you so hard your grandmother will die. Guess its all on Flacco.
Cincinnati - I think this T-Ocho thing will continue to work out great. Carson Palmer is rockin and rollin. Cedric Benson is going to have the wheels ran off this year, and Gresham, though he may not know the offense, still apparently knows how to catch TDs. The Bengals are an exciting team to me, but the road to the AFC North Title still goes through Pittsburgh.
Cleveland - I think they have a good game manager in Colt McCoy, but they are going to have to be patient. They need to get Montario Hardesty back rolling next year and then trade his ass as soon as possible for whatever they can get. Its a team that has many interesting pieces, but nothing really gluing it together. It starts with getting a franchise QB, and I think Cleveland should part with whatever it takes to lure Kevin Kolb.
Then they need to fire Mangina.
AFC South -
Houston - If they whip the Cowboys ass this Sunday I will be a firm believer of the 3-0 Texans. This team finally has the ability to win both with the run and with the pass. I like the defensive line, and I think its been very healthy for Kevin Walter and Jacoby Jones to compete. How its going to play out will be interesting.
Titans - OK CJ2K. Lets lay off gaining 5 miles rushing this year and focus on making the playoffs. Trying to win or not, giving VY the hook was the wrong thing to do last week. CJ2K had like 30 yards. Didnt see you go to Javon Ringer and try to pound the ball. You find a man and stick with him, or trade for Kevin Kolb. They arent going to win more than 7 games this year.
Jacksonville - This is a cluster. Somehow they have managed to get nothing out of their one weapon, and this team is led by a QB who needed an ACL tear to keep his job. Take away MGD and Sims-Walker, and I really think this is an 0-16 team. Los Angeles Jaquars here we come.
AFC West
Kansas City - Lets not let this 2-0 record get out of hand here. The San Diego thing was a great upset win, but the next game was against lowly Cleveland. This is another team that should trade for Kevin Kolb. KC has very nice weapons and a young defense. They just need someone, anyone, to run the offense. I bet McCluster gives us the highlight play of the year.
San Diego - I still think this is the AFC West Champ, at least one more year. Sproles rocks the house, they found a great #2 back in Tolbert, and Floyd is coming along well. They dont NEED VJax. I would like to see some defensive improvements, but overall the Chargers are a pleasing team to watch.
Denver - Kyle Orton is going a great job. Good to see Eddie Royal back. Not sure what they are going to trot out at RB from week to week, probably as much a product of the Rats left overs as anything else. I think Elvis Dumervil was going to have a DPOY type season. His downfall cost this team 4 wins. Anyone know who the TE here is?
Oakland - Glad to see someone finally gave McFadden permission to play football. I dont care who is at QB, either one is better than the fat carcas, and Gradkowski, God love him, seems to just have the pulse of this team. Whether he is more talented than Campbell or not dont matter. What does matter is they will play for him, and sometimes heart and desire are all that matters. Louis Murphy will show the world why he is better than DHB this year. Oakland could sneak up and win 8 games.
NFC East
Dallas - This is a freakin trainwreck. Jason Witten appearently thought the season started last week. Nearly all of us drank the Jones/Barber koolaid and we have like 100 yards to show for it. Total. Miles Austin apparently thinks he has to carry the whole team, but its great to see him playing his ass off AFTER getting paid. Roy Williams still sucks. This is a season defining game this weekend.
Washington - They are pretty damn good after all. As I expected, McNabb is making people miss him in Philly, and they dont need Haynesworth. The way things are going in this division, its Michael Vick vs Donovan McNabb for the division title.
Philadelphia - Well, its the Vick show now, and I think his talents fit this team to a T. Probably kills Celeks value, but DJax, Maclin, and McCoy just went way up. Its going to be very interesting to see how it plays out with Kevin Kolb, and whether he is traded. This could have Jersey Shore drama potential if Vick goes down in a couple weeks and they have to turn back to Kolb.
New York Giants - Disgruntled running back. Not sure who will be the #1 WR. TE with a concussion. Coach on the hot seat. Not conductive to making the playoffs. Im not impressed with the Giants. You shouldnt be either.
NFC North
Chicago - Its working out pretty damn well so far. Im thinking there is going to be a shootout Monday night with the Packers. Matt Forte has done pretty well in holding off Chester Taylor, and the defense is doing enough to get them by. Greg Olsen has disappeared as expected, and how many of you got burned by Devin Armowhatever last week?
Green Bay - Ryan Grant going down changes things, but they still rock. Greg Jennings needs to catch more TDs, but from a strictly "real" football perspective, this team has all the tools to make the Super Bowl. They probably have the second best TE in the game, a real key in January.
Just a fine team from top to bottom. ONLY thing that concerns me is the running game. A trade for Marshawn Lynch would probably ice the cake.
Minnesota - Brett Favre reminds me of Murtaugh from Lethal Weapon. "Im too old for this sh*t". The arm just aint there, the decision making is out the window, and this is some of the worst garbage at WR Ive seen up there in a long time. My money is on seeing Tarvaris Jackson before the end of the year. The Lions have two shots this year to close the Super Bowl window on the Vikings, and I think they will get it done.
Detroit - "Basic Losing....IS OVER!" A line from Necessary Roughness, but it fits. I dont think anyone told Jahvid Best this team was supposed to suck, because he is playing like a Super Bowl birth is on the line. Shaun Hill has done good at QB so far, and the defense is playing better than I expected. (Yeah, I think alot of people are going to give up 4 scores to Mike Vick....and you should too). They wont make the post season, but I betcha they are going to screw up at least two teams post season plans this year. In any event, they arent an easy win anymore, and they have my respect.
NFC South
Tampa Bay - There are some nice pieces here. Graham and Huggins are going to make a great combo once Caddy gets hurt again. Young but blue collar WR corps. Decent young QB. No real pressure to win. Alot of this is going to come down to how Freeman develops over the next couple of years. I didnt know Ronde Barber was still playing..what is he like 50 now?
New Orleans - Class of the division. They have beaten two of the alleged best defenses in the league already. I want to see New Orleans vs Baltimore. Brees vs Lewis. Epic it would be. I hope they just use Sharper in spot duty when he comes off PUP. Wonder who is going to step up in the absence of Reginald Bush. Also wonder what would happen if a guy with ability like TO would sign with the Saints. Division Champion none the less.
Atlanta - Turner/Snelling is the best 1-2 punch in the league. They are just an epic backfield, and its time to cut ties with Norwood. They dont need him, but he cant stay healthy anyway. This is a good football team who will only get better as the next three seasons pass. I do wonder what would have happened if Jordan Shipley or Eric Decker, solid possession recievers, were playing next to Roddy White, but thats the way the draft goes. Biggest question mark to me is what will happen when Gonzo retires. This team is a slot reciever away from being special.
Carolina - Definately the lame duck of the NFL. We all know Fox wont be back. Most are pretty certain the Chin is coming to Carolina. This is a team that I look at for fantasy stats only. Nothing impressive about them right now, but looking across the depth chart, this sure has the potential to turn into Steelers south if Cowher comes...but until then someone who reads this give me a reason to care......
NFC West
San Francisco - Patrick Willis and Vernon Davis should beat the sh9t out of Michael Crabtree. God forbid you go to training camp and establish chemistry with your QB. Douchebag..... Frank Gore is still the man, and he and Willis will get at least 7 wins for the 49ers. When Gore misses his obligatory game later this year Dixon is going to fill in just fine. I think its a pretty critical time for Singletary. He needs to string together some wins, but I dont think its time to hit the panic button yet. Another team who could trade for Kolb.
Seattle - Pete Carroll is going to do just fine this time around. He is doing the right thing bringing fun and passion back to the sidelines. I think he will get the power back he covets in the next draft, and I like he had balls enough to cut Housh AND was smart enough to not sign Leinart to the league minimum. Jones needs to be cut, and I hope Carroll does it before next season, be it 2011 or 2012. Chin up Seattle fans.
Arizona - Im not sure what the hell is going to show up at QB from week to week, but they are messing with Fitz's numbers damn it! Definately a team in transition, a team that needs to find an identity. Not sure what they will do with Wells and Hightower. Wells may possible have more "talent", but Hightower fits the mold alot better right now.
St Louis - I wont bust on them too much. There have been brief flashes these first two weeks where you see what Sam Bradford could become. I would have liked to seen him with Donnie Avery, but thats what you get when you play your only WR in a meaningless preseason game. I wish SJax could play for another team, because this guy deserves to see the post season before hes a broke down has been. Spags might be fired before this team fully turns the corner, but he has done a nice job of getting some pieces in place.
Those are my random thoughts for now. Feel free to throw in yours.
