I don't think Clemens every really got much of a shot to show anything with this team. Got a few games with a bad team, then Favre came to town, then a new coach comes to town complete with a new QB.

Would love to see Clemens moved somewhere that he could get another decent shot.

This statement is probably true, but I think Sanchez was the right decision here.

Jets will suck no matter who the QB is....Might as well get the rookie some reps.

I see that point, when you are dealing with a typical veteran that hasn't done well as a starter. With Clemens though, you really need to see what the guy can do. I think this is where head coaches make their biggest mistakes when they get ahold of a new team like this. They seem obsessed with bringing in their own QB.

Not sure. Personally, I don't think I would have taken the first round risk to begin with for Sanchez. This guy is extremely small for this position. He may be listed at 6'2", but it is a short version of that height, and he has an extremely low throwing stance, which makes it much harder to view the field clearly.

They have a superior offensive line, a rapidly improving defense, and a very deep running game.
All he has to do this year is manage the game and not lose any for them and they could contend for a wildcard.
Clemens doesn't fit nearly as well with a more of a gunslinger mentality.

Jets have a better chance of starting off 0-5 than they do contending for a wildcard.

Not saying Clemens would be a better option, but I think they need to work more with Sanchez before trying to put him out there on the field.

First 5 opponents are @Houston, New England, Tennessee, @ New Orleans, @ Miami

Would not be shocked to see this team setting at 2-6 or worse at the bye.

The throwing stance that Sanchez has, combined with not having the desired height to begin with is going to make it very difficult for him to see the field. He literally becomes 3-4 inches shorter when he gets in his throwing stance, making it almost impossible to properly see over a line full of 6'5" guys who all have their arms up in the air.

Can't believe this even made the news. Everybody knew this was going to happen bar an injury to Sanchez. The Jets didn't trade up in the draft and give him a huge contract just to have them ride the bench and hold a clip board.

I actually agree with Mike here. To me the smart play is to have Clemmens take the first 3-4 games...which look to be killer. THEN switch to Sanchez and let the rookie face less challenging opponents.

Regardless they are looking at 0-4 probably...possibly 0-5....so why screw the kids head up so early?

I can't wait until the first time he gets sacked in the regular season and I can start throwing out the "Dirty Sanchez" comments.

I'm not so much worried about screwing the kids head up. I just don't feel like he will be the long term answer at the position. Just do see it, an don't see why he was drafted so early. Looks like a long term project, at best. Something you draft on day two.

Sanchez is starting over Clemens because Sanchez has had the better preseason IMO. As a regular lurker at TGG and Jetnation who reads all the blogs and daily camp reports i think this decision was a no brainer. To all of you writing off the Jets because you think Sanchez is a rookie and the Jets will get pummeled because of his inexpierience, id reserve judgment till you see this kid play. Guy moves in the pocket like no Jet QB ive seen before and bounces back quickly from mistakes. I think hes going to be a good one. If the Jets struggle out of the gate it will be because of the Calvin Pace suspension more than Sanchez starting

Interesting, from all accounts I heard, Clemens was doing just as well in camp, possibly better. Seems the major deciding factor was not wanting to sit a big contract on the bench.

I'm not writing off the Jets because Sanchez is a rookie, my concern is simply his size and throwing stance combined. The two things together make him a midget behind a line full of giant linemen. I hope he succeeds, and I hope the Jets do well.

This feels like the Ryan discussion you and I had last year. I was wrong there.

I am not sure here. From what i have seen, he has poise in the pocket, seems to have some feel for pressure, and doesn't make too many big mistakes.

I really think the offense in NY will be pretty vanilla, just like Balt. last year for Flacco. Still, not a bad position...and I think he has potential.

I will argue one point with you though. You said Atlanta was a better team for Ryan. Most here, and you too I think were all over dogging Atlanta last year. Granted NYJ don't have Turner, but they do have Jones who is solid, Washington who is young and talented, and Greene who will be a horse. I think Sanchez will have the running game to support him. Difference here is Sanchez has Cotchery and Keller. Ryan basically only had white.

First, I don't think Sanchez is the caliber QB that Ryan is. I was sold on Ryan very early on.

with Sanchez, he becomed more effective rolling out of the pocket. The guy throws very well on the run. I actually compare him to Romo in this regard. The difference is that Romo can actually stand in the pocket and deliver the ball. Even then, Romo has an issue with balls being batted down. Sanchez gets much lower in his throwing stance than Romo, and this is where I see the issue.

Teams are going to work to prevent Sanchez from rolling out to his right, and ultimately try to keep him in the pocket. How he adjusts to this will be the deciding factor on his success.

If Sanchez is getting compared to Romo then Sanchez is going to suck. Just never sold on Romo, to me he's nothing better than a back up.
