Saints WRs ??? Going forward???

This thread is a fishing expedition, and it is because I don't know.....there I said it. :)

It was brought about by Mud's response to the DeSean Jackson thread. He said the Saints didn't need him as he wasn't a team player and I agree with that.

The Saints WR corp is wildly effective, not enough balls to go around, but some great yards per catch numbers by all of them. I also know that there is not a real WR free agency problem this offseason with the Saints. But it did make me think about contracts going into the future.

Colston: Slightly better than the rest. Was looking for a contract extension during this season, I thought I read that he got one???

Henderson and Meacham: Not a problem right now, but they might pop contract-wise at nearly the same time???

Lance Moore: Got a year to keep him around??? May be wrong on this.

No extension yet for Colston but unless he's unhappy in New Orleans it will get done but Brees is up first.

I gotta believe both Henderson and Meachem are players on Payton's list of "who to replace, but how?".

Sean has bent over backwards to try and justify trading up for Robert.
Dev is reliable, but isn't getting any faster.

I doubt any teams are eye-balling either player so they'll probably stay until cut or traded.

It's difficult to imagine Brees wants to leave and even more difficult to believe Brees won't work with management to ensure his man Marques is able to remain a happy Saint.

The Saints problems are on defense right now.

Right arm Alpha. Brees is on record as saying he'll work his contract out so that we can keep key pieces in place.

i thought i read somewhere that both colston and meachem will be free agents this year . . . i along with many have been waiting for meachem to breakout, but it just hasn't happened . . . whether that's from injuries, work ethic or a little of both . . . ;)

The key pieces for the Saints offense will stay in place this season with the biggest question mark being can we keep our left guard who also is a free agent and rumored to be in the sights of Jerry Jones. Brees, Colston, and the guard will total up to a pretty penney but as I said Brees has stated that he's willing to structure his contract in such a way that we can have a legitimate shot at keeping those key players together. Meachem might be the odd man out if he can find some other team willing to pay top dollar for an under performing WR he'll be gone.

Look for the Saints to address their defense this off season as it is widely felt that our defense had run its course under our past DC. You are spot on Alpha and I'm happy to say that Sean and Mickey both seem to realize that we need to solidify that side of the ball. The Saints defense just couldn't get turnovers this season which was very unlike our championship season.

Plain and simple, Meachem isn't good enough to overcome his mental incapacity. That's isn't to say the light may suddenly come on, but hope is flickering.

what do you think bobbeaux, mud that sound even close?

Flickering indeed. His inconcistency is a frustrating thing to watch. (so is my spelling today). I have little to no hope that the light will stay on regularly enough to count on him.

Trade Meachem to the Eagles for Assante Samuel. Meachem can help fill the DeSean void if he leaves. Assante while not being a big turnover guy he can shut down one side of the D giving the guys that were grabbing INTs a better opportunity to do ball hawk again.

Mud works and DeSean would not fit on the Saints team. They're team players and DeSean hasn't shown that he understands such.

Word Mud.

Jackson will fit fine in Cincy.

Alpha say so and not just because it will drive Miller nuts.
Will never happen, Mikey boy brown won't repeat the mistake he made with Chad and Owens. Won't happen.
