Ryan Mallett - Moron?

More piling on from Rotoworld:

SI.com's Don Banks refers to Arkansas QB Ryan Mallett's Saturday media appearance as a "train wreck."
According to Banks, "One league insider told me he could see Mallett slipping into the third round easier than he could see him rising into the first round." It's worth noting that FOX Sports' Adam Caplan has already predicted a fall out of round one for Mallett, and Wes Bunting of the National Football Post says Mallett "wouldn't be on my draft board, period."

This from Rotoworld:

Mallett bombed his media interview and refused to run a forty-yard dash, but looked great airing it out in a t-shirt and shorts. While Mallett's arm strength is always going to be a plus, there are very few NFL insiders left that believe he'll be a first-round pick. He could get heavy interest in the top of round two, however, from teams like the Bengals at No. 35 overall.

I actually think this is a great fit here. Bengals have the #3 pick in 2nd round. They can get a top player at #4 either defendor or Green at Wr. They then turn around in 2nd and get Qb of future. They just announced they are going to listen to offers for Palmer once CBA is in place. So they potentially have some extra picks coming if the trade happens. Time to strip and rebuild this team again.

First, the refusal to run a 40 should not be a big deal. Who cares. Tom Brady has like the 2nd worst 40 time in combine history. It's irrelevant. Also, Blaine Gabbert and Matt Ryan completely refused to work out at the combine at all. Mallett ought to be able to pick and chose somethings, especially something as trivial as the 40.

His interview was rough, but it was because the media probed him about his bad attitude. He never should have handled it the way he did, and instead of saying something as simple as "I'm not here to discuss my past or anything that someone else may have said about me. I'd like to focus on the now and this great opportunity that I have," he got up and just refused to speak to them.

There is definitely a character issue, but I would be stunned if Mallett falls out of the first round with the rocket and skills that he has compared to the crap fest of QBs in this years draft. Someone is taking him before the 1st night ends.

Sounds too much like Ryan Leaf for me. That, and he seems to throw terrible when any pressure is put on him.

Thats more the knock on Ponder, not Mallet. He had a hell of a game vs. Ohio State....and they pressured the heck out of him.

Ponder has not impressed me. And if you look back at that Ohio State game, they were in Mallett's face a lot, and his receivers dropped a ton of his perfectly thrown balls.

Brady didnt impress anyone either.

Mallet reminds me of Matt Leinart. Skills are there, brain isnt.

So you are comparing Ponder to Brady???

Mallet has much more skill and accuracy and more important ARM than Leinart ever dreamed of.... :nono:

I couldn't agree more, Phic. Mallet is without a doubt the most skilled true QB in this draft. He's my #2 behind Cam, and I think he's way better than Gabbert who put up pedestrian numbers in a spread offense.

To me his success depends on what team any of these qbs go to and what system they are playing in. A few of these even if they got a veteren qb, say Brady, they still wouldnt mkae the playoffs much less a rookie qb. Whoever ends up going to Buffalo is going to suffer.

He's not a moron, he just lacks Carson Palmers' leadership skills:

Sources tell the Miami Herald that NFL teams' main concern with Ryan Mallett is that the Arkansas quarterback lacks leadership skills.

Writes Herald columnist Armando Salguero, "The problem with (Mallett), I'm told, is not whispers of narcotics use ... The question with Mallet, one very good NFL source tells me, is the kid is said to have absolutely zero leadership skills. None." The Dolphins worked out Mallett on Tuesday, but NFL Network's Jason La Canfora reports that they are "highly unlikely" to draft him. Mallett is shaping up as a second-round pick at best.

More on, or if you prefer, Moron Mallett:

Citing "off-the-record conversations with GMs and coordinators," NFL Network's Paul Burmeister insists NFL teams have discovered "documented drug use" and "real character issues" with Arkansas QB Ryan Mallett.

NFL personnel types are "wondering if they want (Mallett) to be the face of their franchise," said Burmeister. "These are people who make it their business to know Ryan Mallett inside and out." Bodog.com has set the over-under on Mallett's draft odds at 39.5. We are comfortably taking the over on that one, and it wouldn't surprise us one bit if Mallett fails to come off the board in the first two rounds.
