Ever watched a full season of USF football? I'm sure the creed is something like "Hit the Top 25, then faceplant!"

Yeah, it's not really all that shocking to be honest. Tuesday before my show I was at the studio office chatting with Kyle Campbell, Bulls Radio's Athletic Director, and he asked me "can the Bulls win this Thursday night?" My answer was as follows: "Yes, they can win. Do I think they'll win? Hell no. And if they loose, it's not going to be because of USF's defense, it will be because the Rutgers defense shuts BJ Daniels down."

The Bulls are the only team in all of the FBS to go 5-0 in the last 3 seasons. We then lost 4 or more games in the 2nd half of the season all three years. I hate to say it... but that trend has to be coaching. If your team cannot remain motivated, it falls on the coach's shoulders.

Ok....since you know the program the best,

Is this an issue with Leavitt? Is this as far as he can get the program and someone else is who will take it to the next level?

Or is this simply a player issue? Does this now basically negate the recruiting boost that came from the defeat of Florida State?

Just because this was a predictable Thursday night loss on ESPN and the fourth straight loss to the Scarlet Knights, the Bulls shouldn't lose credit on their Seminoles win. Sending your players out on the field looking unorganized is a coaching issue. And since this isn't the first time we've lost to this team, I'd expect a more focused offensive approach.

The defense played very well in this game. I know the score doesn't give that impression at first glance, but the Bulls held them to just 6 points and 126 yards in 7 drives in the first half of which they started three drives in USF territory (2 of them inside the 25 yard line). Entering the locker rooms at 13-0 was a defensive victory.

This was the first regular-season shut out in USF's 13-year history. Leavitt has some homework to do, but overall the Bulls are steadily improving their game. Beating FSU proves they will continue to climb the Big East mountain.

I agree with Rachelle on 2 points (in assisting me in answering Sgt's question). 1 is that the Bulls defense played very, very well. 2 in that it's the first shut out in.. pretty much our career as a team.

With that said, I do think it negates the FSU win, but not completely. The Bulls have 1 more game to prove to Florida high school kids that USF is a place they want to play. And that's the Miami game coming up in a couple of weeks. If the Bulls win that game, they're set as far as recruits.

If they loose, they're screwed, because this is the mindset that kids will have: FSU sucks this year and the Bulls beat them, who cares? Why would I go there? They've never even won the Big East.

I do think the Bulls are improving, but I also think that their issue is coaching. ATM, I'm not ready to say goodbye to Laevitt. Only because he has a freshman QB that could not produce Thursday night. If by chance the Bulls go 5-0 next year and then fail to make it to a BCS Bowl appearance, I think Leavitt's days are numbered.

Great answers guys. I think Leavitt is a fine coach, but only a few are gifted enough to stay for long periods. Leavitt would get snatched up quick by another program., but maybe in what..year 13.. it just stagnant and predictable.
