Ravens Re-sign RB Jalen Parmalee

Ravens re-signed RB Jalen Parmele. Who you say? Parmalee could be Ray Rices backup this year. With the Ravens ready to release McGahee they gave Parmalee a tendered contract to protect him. You give a tender offer to a player to protect him, it usually means you pay him a little more money so if he gets a free agent offer the team will get a draft pick also. Pamalees tender salary was $1.2 but Parmalee re-signed with the Ravens for less but he can't be grabbed in free agency now. He was the #3 behind Rice and McGahee but he may have a chance to be the #2 back. But keep an eye out on the Ravens as they may very well be bringing in another RB before the season starts.

I think Anthony Allen will win the #2 job.

Once again...people placing too high of a value on a rookie.

I would have bet $1000 that someone would say Allen was going to win the #2 job. According to everyone...all rookies will beat out vets! News flash!

Based on the comments on this forum, you would think every rookie RB and WR is going to beat out the starter and be a stud. It just doesn't workout that way.

Why pick up Ronnie Brown or Ricky Williams when you have a stud RB in Ray Rice? They're better off picking up A RB like Brandon Jackson (I know...he's not available) and developing their own guys.

All one of them will do is replace kind of what they had in Willis. They don't need a great back, they have Rice. They need back depth, and one of those two would fit the bill. IMHO

For back up positions - yes it is pretty common.

The veteran player has to be that much better than the rookie to beat out the rookie.

I have no idea what Allen has signed for - but we know it is at least 375 thousand. Lets be generous and bump that to 500.

For Parmalee to beat out Allen for a roster spot he has to be about 700 thousand bucks better of an investment than Allen. If not then they go with the younger guy that has far more upward potentional than a guy that has been around for awhile but has not made a splash.

Why do you think you really do not see the league full of 7 year vets and up as third stringers? Money is the simple answer. A rookie has to only be paid 375 where a 7 year guy has to be paid 810 (and 910 for a 10 year guy).

Obviously more often than not the person that can help more right at that moment is the vet - but you start adding up the savings over multiple positions and that is the difference between being able to get and pay the big name starters versus having a bunch of low rent starters since your salary cap is tied up in third stringers.

Parmalee re-signed with the Ravens for $600.000. He signed up very cheaply in a move that apparently looks more at the opportunity than the money.

ok so ignore what I said on this specific example :) (saw the tender and just ran with it)

.. but it still holds truth in general

Word is the Ravens have withdrew the tender to Jalen Parmelee.

Sounds like they're going after someone else. Stay tuned...

What do you mean look at his stats? He had ray Rice and Willis McGahee ahead of him. That's why he didn't get any stats. Come on dude...you're smarter than that.

Your right but dont you think in 3 seasons Parmele would have gotten a little more work if he was worthy ??

I agree, Great Points!! I wrote up this on Parmalee not because it was very fantasy relevant but interesting in that he took so much less money to keep an opportunity open for himself.

The two were connected they had to take the tender offer away so Parmalee could re-sign for half the price.
