Rashard Mendenhall....anyone remember him?

I was thinking about this thread and the Felix thread, and I had to come back to see if Cooley posted here, and what he said.

Then I stumble on this post.

So a guy with 200+ yards and 3 TDs is useless, or virtually useless, or basically useless, or whatever the crap, but you're unsure on Mendy.

I'm confused.:headscratch:

You think you're confused now, don't make me jump over into this thread following you just to drag you back.

This is one of the more interesting Running Back By Commitees this year. There could be a big shift in scenery among one of the more productive Rushing RBBCs. Mendy coming back from injury and hoping to make up/take up for the missed time/slack after last season. The Steelers also have to be watching closely, can Mendy become a primary back or will he run his mouth and get busted up by the Ravens again?

Fast Willie Parker is in a contract year.

As usual, Coach brings up an insightful point. They spent a first round pick on a RB in 2008 which is not their normal strategy. In a best-case (fantasy) scenario, Mendy could prove that he's capable enough to NOT require a committee system going forward, and he's certainly got the requisite size to handle a 20-25 carry/game workload.
Ideally I'd like to see Mendy as the back of the future with Parker becoming expendable to avoid the inevitable cap hit, and maybe look at a 2nd tier RB in next year's draft.
Either way, as I stated on the WBUL show, I'd move Mendy ahead of Parker in a keeper/dynasty format.

After reading it all, I will buy on Mendenhall. Parker is not the long range answer and this team has another couple Super Bowl runs in it!

What the crap? Seriously. What the crap?

You're talking all kinds of smack on Felix Jones, but you're on the fence about Mendy?

Seriously??

I'm sorry I haven't looked at this thread lately. But I would hate for you to be confused.

This thread was about later round value. The reason why these players (Mendenhall and Jones) are being considered and discussed as later round values is because there is a great degree of uncertainty.

Yes I am uncertain about the value of Mendenhall but I feel his potential based on his current situation is more condusive to scoring consistent fantasy points than that of Jones.

If I was certain of Mendenhall's production I would take him in an early round.

I guess I'm just beating a dead horse here. It's in my nature so I suppose I'll continue.

2 1st round RBs both drafted in 08. Both players are #2 on the RB depth chart. Both players suffered a season ending injury last year.

Looks like a toss up. Feels like a toss up. It's not though. The reason it's not is what they did with opportunities that they have already had.

I just can't figure out how you could hate on Felix and be more sure about the possibilities of Mendy scoring fantasy points. It makes zero sense to me.

I would LOVE LOVE LOVE a huge VBet on Felix Vs Mendy. If Vegas offered a prop bet on something like this I would love to bet that.

For 2009, that wouldn't be a real practical vBet. Jones will probably get a tad more touches, plus his owner/G.M. is a Razorback through and through. If anything, there will be pressure from on high to make sure Felix gets his.
The Steelers organization as a whole has traditionally been slightly more loyal to veterans who have given their all to the team over a hot rookie or younger player in regards to the depth chart. So while I don't expect FWP to be re-signed past this year (unless he agrees to a pay cut), as long as he'/s on the roster, he'll be the clearcut primary runner.

So cutting to the chase, I would lean towards Mendy having a more productive career, but Jones might be the better pick for '09.

Mendy needs to show he can stay on the field and that he can hold on to the ball. No matter how good he is, if he can't do those two things Tomlin won't stand for it. However, if he can, you could be looking at a steal in the 8th to 9th round.

Im not crazy about Mendy in dynasty because most owners were willing to deal for Parker cheap and now have them cuffed making him a tough target to get at an affordable price. In redraft I like Mendenhall because hes going pretty late and I think hes the best RB the Steelers have right now even though you would never know it by the way he played last season, but i believe the wheels are falling off on FWP and owners could catch a big break with Mendy in 09. Hes only a depth target in redraft at this point, but one with nice upside
