Rams not adverse to taking RB Trent Richardson a pick #6

Rams coach Jeff Fisher insists he has not devalued running backs despite a perception that the position has lost appeal around the NFL. The idea is that backs have lost value in a passing league may not affect Fisher. While the valule of runners that play in the passing game have led to a lot of Running Backs By Committee (RBBC). "I haven't devalued the running back position," Fisher insisted. "You're talking to the wrong person. I want as many of them on the roster as you can get." Fisher consistently used high draft picks on running backs in Tennessee. He could do the same if Trent Richardson falls to St. Louis at No. 6.

He reminds me of an adrian peterson type RB. good hands and can catch out of the back field. and watching him play, he looked alot like him the way he ran. now its time to see if he can take continouis hits in the NFL.

this guy is a must for a team that wants to protect a young Qb by having a solid run game. I don't see him getting past Tampa Bay.

I don't see TR making it past the Bucs either. But it is nice to see that interest is high as the pundits have been saying nobody wants full time backs anymore.

I love the guy, but there seems to be a TON of smoke around him.....me wondering if he doesn't slide a little come draft day.

That sounds like a threat to me.

You're banned for a year!

Well if he goes to Detroit, they got a few guys who can teach him how to take a "hit". They just got recently busted for taking to many "hits"

But i just got back. and i didnt get a fair trial. How about a verbal warning? LOL

I don't see the RB as being 'devalued' in the NFL so much as I see teams copying other teams.
And it would make sense for the media that reports on a copycat league to themselves fall into that mode.

I'm not going to come out and say T-Rich is a product of a system that has produced almost nauseating spoils at the RB vocation.

have to edit to add-

i do see the RB being devalued by how much they are getting paid, and the contracts that are not being handed out as in the past, as teams try to maintain two quality RB's, so yeah

very well could posibly happen. or he could be the next Barry Sanders.
or.....he could do both. I love the kid and feel he is the real deal. Reminds me more of an Emmitt than Barry; but none the less he's going to be damn good IMO......I just could see him fall a little on draft day.

hope your right. Think he could do wonders for the right team in the right offence and make a big impact. Just gotta see, trying to remember the last college RB that made a huge impact his first year in th NFL. seems like its been quite the past few years and more so not living up to the hype. Regggie Bush is coming to mind. Great college player but really hasnt done much in the NFL. Think size hurt him most and not being used properly as he had some skills.

What a guy who quits in his prime and gave up on his team? Off hand one name comes to mind, carson palmer. LOL.

Barry was great, hated to see it when he walked away for good. Always thought Emmitt Smith would have been another Sanders, and tho he had a great career and was fun to watch, he went down hill quick. No fuel in the tank and he still played.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers CB Ronde Barber said Friday, April 13, that the team "probably will" select Louisiana State CB Morris Claiborne with the No. 5 overall pick in the NFL Draft. "I haven't watched any film of him. I don't know how he plays or anything," Barber said. "He was actually in our (secondary) room. They did those little unofficial visits or whatever. He's a good kid. He looks good. He looks the part. Everybody's high on him."

The league has evolved into a pass-oriented scheme. Running backs who can grind out yards still have a place on teams who have a great defense, or lack a great QB.

The new "value" at RB are those who can catch and thus become more inclusive with the pass-oriented theme, as an investment they also tend to last longer than those who take a beating every week.

I think we still see the big bruisers now and again, but I think we see far more backs of more diminutive size, who can beat LB's in a pass pattern.

tsk, tsk, RLLD.

what of the evolution of Tebow?
surely Denver is not the Galapagos of the NFL.
it was the HMS Beagle not the Bronco

Good post.

Guys like Turner and Mendenhall who have no relevance in the passing game are the exception and are fading away. Guys like Stephen Jackson and Foster, who are power guys who can catch the ball will be prized (I see Richardson in this category).

Got to be able to catch the ball in todays game, which Richardson can............

Richardson is certainly physical freak. They will not let him bench his max out of fear that he could injure himself, that's how powerful this guy is.

Imagine you are some 5'10" DB at about 190lbs, and that wrecking machine comes barreling into your area snatching a slant pass out of the air.....just what the hell are you expected to do about him?
