Questionable Morality of the NFL

Just read a really interesting story at PFW, about Tony Washington a OT from Abiline Christian college.

Evidently this kid was busted for having underage sex(both of them...) with his sister. As such he is a registered sex offender. Now, I don't know all the ins and outs of this story. Nor what exactly was involved, although my understanding was it was consensual.

Here is my beef though. Here is a kid, and he was a kid, who made a huge mistake. He paid the price, and has been open and accepted the consequences. So what happens...the NFL treats him like he has plague.

Yet here we are just escaping from the non-stop turmoil of a NFL Qb who can't keep it in his pants, regardless of whether his partner wants to or not. As well as multiple stories of spouse abuse, DUI, vehicular manslaughter while drunk. This evidently is okay. You just can't have sex with your sister.

Now, I am not poo pooing what this kid did. It was clearly wrong, and I admit makes me quite disgusted. But what I will applaud is this kid stepped up and admitted to it. No hiding, no excusing...no paying victims off.

All I am saying is, if this is really a legit reason to not draft or sign this kid....then are not the other issues legit reason to boot the other players out? dunno:

Great topic. This the crap that has disgusted me with the NFL lately.

I am all about throwing out some stiff punishment for being an idiot, but be consistent is all I ask, and that isn't happening.

Replace Pacman Jones name with Ben Roethlisberger, and suddenly the QB is facing a much larger suspension.

I really don't like what is going on with the NFL right now. Supposedly is is all about cleaning up the league, but in reality what is more important is money because players are being treated more unfairly than I have ever seen.

There was a big flap a couple years ago when ACU brought Washington into the fold. I lived right down the street from the campus in Abilene, and saw many of the players occasionally in Wal-Mart and the grocery store across from the college and they were very polite and talkative with me.
Now, keep in mind that ACU is indeed a conservative christian college, tied to the Church of Christ, yet they constantly take in troubled JuCo guys (Bernard Scott) with the intent on helping them turn their lives around through academics and athletics. After the initial concern about this kid's transgressions, there was nary a peep anywhere in the local media about him (until draft season), and by all accounts he was a hard worker and turned his life around while in school. B.Scott had a similarly spotty past, yet was drafted in the 6th round last year after a Combine invite..
Pro Football Weekly had Washington projected as a 4/5 rounder based on talent, yet as Phic points out, he barely got a sniff. If a school and community as straight-laced as Abilene Christian and Abilene itself felt comfortable with this kid, why not the league?
