Locker Decides To Return To Washington For Senior Season - University of Washington Official Athletics Site

SEATTLE - University of Washington quarterback Jake Locker has decided to not to submit his name from consideration for the 2010 National Football League Draft and will return to the Husky football program for his senior season.

"After a great deal of careful thought and deliberation, I have decided to return to Washington and play my senior year," said Locker. "I am very excited about this team's opportunities and potential for the upcoming season and I am looking forward to being a part of it."

This morning I saw that ESPN's Todd McShay had Jake Locker going #1 overall to the Rams in the upcoming NFL draft. Jake has the NFL tools, but still needs hone his skills. He signed a contract with the Angels, so he has a few hundred grand in his pocket, so $ isn't a pressing issue.

Good move by Jake, I love his long term prospects, but I agree he still has some work to do. This was the right move IMO.

Interesting... I think this is a crap move business wise. Good if he wants to win in the Pac-10.

Not necessarily. Alex Smith vs. Aaron Rogers for example. Jake's draft stock is due to his physical attributes more so than his on field performance, so his draft floor is pretty high.

You are assuming that I'm referring to his ability to play in the NFL. I'm talking about a pay check, my friend. I have a feeling that if he goes into the draft now, he can get more money than staying a year, unless he just lights up next year.

Example: Sam Bradford. He should have entered the draft last year, IMO. Instead, for good reasons, he stayed and got hurt.

I'm simply talking about a check, not his career.

Me too. Compare Aaron Rogers' pay check to Alex Smith's. If you think you can play in this league, the big $ comes in the 2nd contract. QBs only get 25 to 30 starts to prove their worth. Not get it done & you could be working at La Taco with Joey Harrington, Akili Smith, & Tim Couch. Jake's got the tools, now he just needs to hone his skills. He has around $200,000 in his pocket from the Angels, condition free, so he can really enjoy the college life while improving his ability to become a solid starting NFL QB. I would have stayed too in his situation. For someone who is poor and/or has relatives that need help, then leaving would be the no-brainer choice.

They are getting an insurance policy according to Jake's dad. They didn't have one this season as per Jake's request.

Its a good move. He could have dropped like a rock if people simply saw the physical stats and saw Akili Smith the 2nd.
