Possible Purchaser for St Louis Rams

Let's just play off the theory that LA becomes an expansion team.

Why does it have to be an EX-pansion team?

What the NFL needs is a DE-spansion team. Take the Bills, Jags and Rams and move them ALL to L.A. in hopes of creating ONE decent team out of the three.

All this expansion stuff just waters down the talent pool.

All this expansion stuff just waters down the talent pool.

This is very true.

Unfortunately, what the NFL is doing to mask this is catering to the excitement of big offensive plays and high scoring. The area that the league is getting most watered down is defense, and it is going widely unnoticed by the casual NFL fan. This isn't the only place where it is happening, but it is the biggest overall place.

I'm sorry that I have not read this whole thread, but i am shocked Disney doesn't own a franchise. What a goldmine situation.

Well, they tried that in baseball with the Angels, but never could become that loved team from Los Angeles that they wanted to be. The Dodgers continued to be THE team, and to this day, they still continue to be THE team. The Angels only hopes of popularity come with sinking money into making the playoffs. One bad season, and watch the fan base disappear.

This is another reason why I think it will be tough for an NFL team to show up and be successful long term in this location, unless it happens to be the Raiders moving in, or potentially the Chargers moving at some point down the road.

3 teams already in that State, all remotely close together. Only so many true fans to go around.

Let's just play off the theory that LA becomes an expansion team. Who would you hire to be the head coach?

Depends largely on who is available. Ideally I'd want Parcells, but he's probably out of the equation after his stint with the Fins is done and then it would largely be in the hands of whoever the best man for the job is. I would say Polian or Pioli.

For HC, I'd say Gruden. The guy ran the Shoot in his college coaching days and seems obsessed with the idea of a real spread offense in the NFL. It would probably do enough early on to offset a lower talent level and allow Pioli/Polian and Gruden to build a real team.

But, like I said, the ideal strategy in my mind is moving the Jags to LA and expanding in Orlando and San Antonio.
