Player or Team?

While playing fantasy football, you get to chose your own players and compose your own team... For those NFL fans, if your all-time favorite player from your favorite team left, would you follow the player or stay with the team?

When Raider RB Marcus Allen went to the Chiefs i followed his progress and watched him play but i never became a Chiefs fan and will always stay loyal to the Silver & Black.

I guess i did both

My heart stays with my team but I continue to pull for my favorite player that left, especially if it wasn't his choice to leave, except when he's matched up against my favorite team. Then I'm hoping he has a really bad game.

I stay with the team. Like it or not, football is a business and that may present a situation where talent has to go where the money is. Doesn't mean you can't root for your player still though. My example is John Lynch. Great player in Tampa, but I had no hatred when he went to Denver. I still loved watching him play though.

I stay with the team first and foremost, however, that doesn't mean you can't like players in other uniforms. There are plenty of players that either played for my favorite team, or hadn't, that I actually like way more than any player on my favorite team, but my allegiance is always with the Bucs.

IE: Chris Johnson. There's not one player on the Buc's roster (aside from Barber, who wont be here much longer anyway) that I like as much as I like Chris Johnson. But if they Bucs are playing the Titans, I want Chris Johnson to have the worst game of his life.

FOOTBALL!
The team. Some of the folks here that go waaaay back to the Tuffsports days may remember my reaction to Griffey leaving. And you former FSWers most certainly remember my reaction to A-Rod leaving.

What about the opposite. What do you think about your team acquiring a rival teams star? A player you used to hate and root against has just been signed by your team, what do you do ?

Like McNabb in Washington this year or Jason Taylor to the Jets.

I know when the Yankees signed Johnny Damon of the then recent World Series champion "idiots" I was pissed but after eventually I forgave his weak arm and rooted for him.

Take Randall Cunningham, drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2nd round in 1985.
He was a punt, pass and kick star in the NFL. Coming in for Ron Jaworski, to get a first down, and then he was back on the bench. Buddy Ryan and his defense were the stars.
Cunningham was a 4-time Pro Bowler & 1-time First-Team All-Pro, and a great Eagles player.
Then he became a Dallas Cowboys in 2000, a low point for me. But he was still my guy, I was glad it was only one year!

Team is always first. Those are my roots and they will not change. If one of my favorite players gets traded away, I will wish them well unless they are playing against my team.

Curtis Granderson was one of my favorite Tigers, and it really hurt to see him go to the team I despise most. I hope he goes 5 for 5 every game with 2 homers a triple and 6 RBI's, but I hope they lose 15-6.

In football, it's all about the team!! I follow the teams all the way over the players.

In a funny twist, in all sports but basketball I feel this way For some reason, in pro basketball I don't have a strong pull to any one team, so I follow the players I enjoy watching the most. I have always been a LeBron fan....decision and all, that has not changed. I have a much bigger tie to LeBron than I ever did or have to the Cavs....

I guess it depends on the player and your emotional relationship with them.

Sticking with the team is the easy answer but I would have followed Roberto Clemente back to the minor leagues.

Walter Peyton, Nolan Ryan...

These are guys I would have loved to see do well even if it meant my favorite team lost.

Yeah... personally speaking, I feel that the team is of more importance...
A player doesn't make the team - they only contribute. Players come and go but a Team is forever...

Great point!

But lets expand this thought.

Now instead of the player is moving YOU are. Do you keep your past local favorite....or do you move to the new local favorite?

I used to live in PA, and that is why i am a Eagles and Phillies fan. I have not lived in PA for 20+ years...but still loyal to my philly teams.

OoOo, good question! If I were to move, I'd stay loyal to that previous team and maybe become a fan of the new team.
