Why one more? Well, with the decisions made, I think the league will have open FA much sooner than expected. As such, the dire need to push Qbs isn't there anymore. So no, I don't see 4-6 Qbs taken in round 1 now. At best, I see three.
okay, here we go.....
1) Carolina - Cam Newton Qb Auburn - I hate this pick. Hate it. But, here is the thing. Carolina desperately needs to draw in the fan base. Taking a safe pick here won't sell tickets. Most fans abhor the existing Qbs there. Taking the Auburn product shows the fans they are looking for the home run.
2) Denver - Marcell Dareus DT Alabama - This is a must pick. They might like to have Peterson or Green. But they simply have to fix the front seven. That is there greatest hole, and this guy fills that need.
3) Buffalo - Von Miller OLB Texas A&M - Again, they have a solid Qb. They desperately need to fix the two lines. No OT ranks here. Miller is the outside rush component they desperately need, and thought they got with the drafting of Maybin.
4) Cincinnati - A. J. Green Wr Georgia - This is not my pick. If this were me, this would be Peterson. But it looks like Ocho is gone. None of the young Wrs are a true #1. All sources read here and reported say this is the direction. Gabbert may go here, especially if rumors are true about a trade down. If Cincy trades here, it won't be for someone taking Gabbert, it will be for someone taking Green.
5) Arizona - Blaine Gabbert Qb Missouri - Why Qb? They have great offensive talent. They need the franchise Qb of the future, and this guy is one of the top Qbs in this draft. I do think they still go out and sign Bulger to allow Gabbert to develop. Peterson could be a pick here, but I don't think so. Arizona has been burnt too long with poor Qb play. Even if they get Bulger, he is too breakable, and need someone ready to jump in.
6) Cleveland - Julio Jones Wr Alabama - This is why teams have to deal with Cincy or Arizona if they want Green. Cleveland KNOWS they have defensive needs. But guess what....this is a very deep DL draft. Getting a very needed Wr, to help McCoy is an absolute must.
7) San Francisco - Patrick Peterson Cb LSU - No brainer here. They need Cb help, and got one of the best talents in this draft at #7. Harbaugh is doing an absolute happy dance right now. I will add the fact that both Qbs are gone, and they supposedly have a deal ready for A.Smith as well helps this pick.
8) Tennessee - Nick Fairley DT Auburn - yes they direly need a Qb. This is a team that is now HAPPY the lockout got ended. They won't waste a pick on Locker, and won't over reach for Dalton or Ponder either. I also think Mallett will be there for them in the 2nd as he continues to drop, and they get the best Qb in this draft for great value. This fixes a need since they lost Haynesworth to FA.
9) Dallas - Robert Quinn DE North Carolina - What no OT? That is right, I think Jerry Jones wants an instant impact player. A guy that will free up Ware, and make this defense nasty once again. DE is a need as much as OT, and none of the OTs in this draft are real blue chip must starts. Plus, make the DL more scary, and you help the questionable Cbs they have.
10) Washington - Jake Locker Qb Washington - Yep, Washinton continues to make bone head draft decisions. Count on it. By all accounts McNabb is gone. Shanny's think they can make any Qb a stud. Owner wants big splash and he doesn't see a DE or Cb as a big splash. This will haunt this franchise for years. For the sake of Redskins fans....I hope they do get the rookie wage scale in.
11) Houston - Cameron Jordan DE California - They are switching to a 3-4 alignment. This guy can be the DE/OLB rush tweener opposit their stud DE that will make this defense nasty. CB is a possibility, but I think a better rush makes Cbs look better. This guy is getting alot of huge draft push lately, and this is where he goes I think.
12) Minnesota - Tyrone Smith OT USC - They can't take a Qb this early. Simply can't. A trade down is a possibility, especially with Prince dropping and Lions on the clock next. But if they make the pick, it has to be either fixing the OL for Peterson and whoever their new Qb will be *cough*McNabb*cough* or DL. I don't see them that high on Liuget and DT is a need. Aldon Smith is there, but I don't think that is as dire. I think fixing the OL will be best.
13) Detroit - Prince Amukamara Cb Nebraska - Can you hear it, the entire state of Michigan is in the happy dance mode :woohoo1: This is the biggest need, and they get a solid player. I prefer Smith, but I think Detroit continues to focus on class guys that fit needs. Drop off isn't that much from Smith either.
14) St. Louis - Corey Liuget DT Illionois - Wr is no longer an option, so look for them to fill another key need at DT. They need to shore up the DL to help addess key backfield issues. Rb or DE could be a target here, but I think this is a solid fit.
15) Miami - Mike Pouncey OL Florida - Yep, sticking with my previous position that none of the rbs in this draft rate a high draft pick, and that the model shows that rb value can be much easier found in later rounds. Add to that the FA talent that is still out there, and I think Miami fixes the o-line instead.
16) Jacksonville - Ryan Kerrigan DE Purdue - You don't take a Qb here. You don't take a Safety here. CB may be an option, but the need isn't as dire. They need to get more pressure on the Qb, and this guy is go from the get go. Great fit for this defense.
17) New England - Aldon Smith DE Missouri - New England direly needs outside pass rush help. OL is a need as well, but the best guard that is still out there is not worth the value here. I would not be shocked to see a trade here, as that is what NE does best. But if the pick were made, this guy wil meet the needs they have to help cover a secondary that made mistakes.
18) San Diego - Muhammad Wilkeson DE Temple - Great 3-4 defensive end that can move to DT on pass rushing downs on a four man line. Kid is a monster and would be a top 10 pick had he waited a year. All motor and hard worker to help a weakening defense.
19) N. Y. Giants - Anthony Costanzo OT Boston College - Yes, they need LB help, but the value is not there at this high a pick. A trade with a team that is in need of OT (Philadelphia, Indy?) could be an option. But this is also a need for Giants and a great player for them to get.
20) Tampa Bay - Da'Quan Bowers DE Clemson - Great value drop for Tampa, the guy has knee concerns, but with medical reports I have seen they may not be an issue. CB is another need, but I don't know if Tampa will take another Cb that has off field issues after having to lose one for same reasons. This will be a much needed lift for the defense.
21) Kansas City - Gabe Carimi OT Wisconsin - This team has multiple needs. They need a WR opposit Bowe, but no value here. They need DE help, but the talent is dropping now. They also need to solidify the OL, to protect their running game and Qb. This is a solid fit for them.
22) Indianapolis - Nate Solder OT Colorado - If Liuget was still on the board, I think he goes here. As the DL is a major issue for Indy. But if you are about to re-sign your franchise Qb for more money than God, you have to do everything you can to protect him, and improve the running game to help him. Solder will do that.
23) Philadelphia - Jimmy Smith Cb Colorado - Philly has three dire needs. On defense they need LB help and Cb help. On offense they have to fix the turnstyle they have at ROT. I just don't feel Sherrod is value here. Smith is though. He is IMO better than Amukamara and is close to if not better than Peterson. This will solve the Cb issue opposite Samuel, and then allow them to address lb and Ol issues later.
24) New Orleans - J. J. Watt DE Wisconsin - They have need for a solid DE that can get to the Qb and is relentless. This guy fits that need. I would not be totally shocked if Ingram goes here, with the injury history of its rbs, and the fact they may let Bush walk. But I still think Rb value can be found later.
25) Seattle - Derek Sherrod OT Mississippi State - What no Qb???? That is right, I think if this team is going to fix the Qb slot, it won't be with a first round pick over reach. This team made the playoffs last year folks, they won't lose ground by sticking themselves with a Qb project that isn't ready to play. Look for Seattle to be in play to sign a FA whether it be Hass back, or trade for Kolb. Meanwhile the fix a much needed issue at OL to make a better offense all around.
26) Baltimore - Brandon Harris Cb Miami - Cb is a need. Dire in some cases. He may not be as good as those ahead of him, but he is still solid. Another option could be a DE like Heyward out of OSU or Clayborn out of Iowa. But my gut says CB will be the choice, with more pass happy offenses in the AFC north.
27) Atlanta - Adrian Clayborn DE Iowa - they need to rebuild an aging front. CB may also be an option, but this guy is relentless and makes the defense much, much better and much more able to chase the Qb.
28) New England - Akeem Ayers OLB UCLA - again this is a need. Lbs are getting older and need help. I know everyone and their mother's son are predicting a Rb here, but after getting burned on their last first round Rb draft...I think they instead grab a great OLB and fix another major hole. A FA back like Benson or DeAngelo Williams is also a better option now for NE with the court ruling.
29) Chicago - Danny Watkins OG Baylor - If Chicago hits this pick, and things fall as I have them, or similar, this is the first best option to trade. Chicago would love a solid DT or OT, but the top picks are gone. Wr value isn't here. A trade down to a Qb hungry team here could be just the ticket. OR, if a Rb needy team wants to snag Ingram, here is the chance. If not, look for Chicago to work on O-line and help keep Cutler on his feet. Then look for Wr either 2nd or 3rd round.
30) N. Y. Jets - Phil Taylor NT Baylor - this is a perfect fit for the Jets. Big nasty NT to take over the middle and allow the Lbs to do their work.
31) Pittsburgh - Aaron Williams Cb Texas - DBs are an issue with Pittsburgh, especially with the potential loss of Ike Tayor. Not sure if he stays at Cb or maybe moves to S, which is a help with Polomalu getting hurt all the time.
32) Greenbay - Cameron Heywood DE Ohio State - Tweener that has size and speed, which will help replace losses that GB has. If one of the top OTs drop, or if Watkins is there I think they are the choice, or Ayers if he drops.
That is pretty much it. Look for Ponder and Dalton to go early 2nd to Buffalo and Cincy.
okay, here we go.....
