The NFL Network reports New England Patriots WR Wes Welker (undisclosed) could miss the team's Week 1 game.

It just says could, but obviously every owner should keep his eyes open the next couple of weeks.

Gotta love the Patriots injury information.

gotta say, I would be concerned about the Pats offense this year. This injury, and Brady's injury. Also talk about bringing back Branch.

All good things come to an end. Could this be the end of an era?

I think it is important to look at the fact that Brady was getting hit quite a bit in the 2nd half of 2007. In 2008, Casell got sacked 47 times, and was hit alot. In 2007, Brady was getting knocked around quite often, more toward the end of the season. Very likely that a pattern has developed.

Brady is already banged up to start this season, that has to bring out some sort of alarm. This year, there is nobody to fall back on that knows the system, and everyone on the team is simply getting older.

I think we are very possibly looking at an 8-9 win team this year.

I see no less than 10 wins out of this team, but Mike I think you're exactly right in noting that this team is getting old. The NE era is on the decline, starting this year, IMO.

Long as the scores roll in I dont care if they win 1 game.

I do think this football team needs to spend its money next year ramping up the OL

I am sticking with my prediction from the "spygate" saga, that other teams are going to start coming after the Patriots early and often, and when things unravel, Belichick will bail out.

Yeah....it will hit in the playoffs when this 13-3 team loses in the Divisional round after we all rode Brady to a title.

Look at it as every rider making that "one last ride".

This team collectively saddled up last year and rode hard. They rode hard to the point of an 11-5 season behind an inexperienced quarterback.

Last year was their last ride. Now you see a great dynasty either struggle to hang on (producing just above mediocre seasons), or bite the bullet and rebuild.

I agree with Mike. They have totally lost talent and ability on the O-line. It is one reason the ONLY rb I target for NE is Faulk, and that is in PPR leagues.

I also agree with Mike that the team saddled up last year.....but won't be able to this year. First because right now...there really is not back up. Walters...seriously??!?!?!

I also think that Randy Mosses out if Brady goes down again. He was a team player last year...won't be this year.

It will all come down to Brady though. If he can keep standing...he can get them to win games. If he goes out again.....this season is over. I also was counting on the defense being NE defense again...but I sure don't see it yet.

Andrew Walter wont be the backup. I understand AJ Feeley will be after a trade with Philly for one of the Pats 4 TEs

I'm really surprised at some of these comments, especially from the more experienced guys saying that the Pats will only win 8-9 games this year and that they are old/declining...

Really guys...really?!

As long as they have Brady and the mad scientist BB, this team will thrive.

Defense was a very sore spot for the Pats last year, an aging bunch for sure and it absolutely showed on the field. What did they do in the offseason and especially the draft? Improve the secondary and go with a total youth movement.

The secondary is totally revamped with Springs, Bodden and 2nd round picks Darius Bulter and Patrick Chung. Let's not forget about Brandon Meriweather who is very athletic and will make plays this year.

The LB unit is led by 2nd year man Mayo who is becoming one of the best linebackers in the league. Along with Thomas and Guyton, this is a strong core.

Their D-line will be their biggest strength and asset. Seymour, Wilfok,Warren and they added a pass rusher in Burgess? Good luck to opposing O-lines this year.

Now to the offense...

Obviously the health of Tom Brady is the biggest concern but he's a gamer and honestly, he is the best QB in the league. Their pass protection needs to improve but it's still one of the top run blocking lines in the league. They don't have a star RB but they have a deep squad and they are efficient.

Plenty of talent on the offensive side, scoring will not be a problem with this team. They will win at least 12 games this year...book it.
