rotoworld,
Randy Moss reported to Patriots OTAs on Tuesday morning.

The workouts are voluntary, so Moss is making good on his pledge to not hold out or cause a distraction despite entering a contract season. Also Tuesday, Tom Brady was in attendance for the first time this offseason.

Why would any team sign a 34-35 y/o WR to a multi million dollar contract that won't be an every down player when they can grab a WR out of the draft and have that position covered for years and years to come instead of hoping Moss will fufill his contract obligations mentally and physically.

Why wouldn't he be an every down player? Physically, he's still one of the fastest WRs in the league and doesn't seem to have shown a loss of skills. Oh wait, he takes plays off. Oh wait, EVERY WR does........

The reason teams would sign him is that he is still an elite talent and proven great receiver. The guy you draft to take his place could be a huge bust. Plus, instead of using that draft pick for a receiver, you can have a great receiver AND the draft choice to use on another position.

That is all..............:xpopcorn:

Thats now, but who says he will be that way in another year of getting tackled and getting punished by defenders. Why chance it and put a band aid on your offense by signing him for a year or 2 when you can heal the wound by signing a rookie or even a younger FA. He's already looking at the retirement years and looking to make as much as he can those 2 years. And he will not go out of his way to risk an injury where he can't enjoy his money later. Too many players are playing past their prime and need to just give it up.

Well, Moss doesn't generally get punished by defenders because of his style of play. An over the top type receiver vs a middle of the field reciver, so injury isn't a huge concern although it can certainly happen to anyone. I think he's an excellent 2-3 year band-aid for a playoff team. It would be really simple if you could put rookie A into the lineup and have him perform like Moss, but that player is rare. Moss is one of the all time greats, so good luck with that.

All players at this point are trying to maximize income and since he never risked injury before, it shouldn't be a big deal now. Teams know what they are getting. I agree that some players play past their prime, but most of those are injury cases like Tory Holt who are a shell of their former selves. Not the case with Moss................
