Pass Defenses

The 49ers signing Dre Bly should improve their defense. With Patrick Willis and now Dre Bly they should have a better pass defense than the 20th ranked defense they had last year. They desperately needed a corner like Bly with the Seahawks adding more weapons to their passing game and being in the same division as the Cardinals.

And if the Broncos have a corner who can step in and contribute in coverage the way that Bly did the Broncos could actually move up a couple of spots with the addition of Brian Dawkins to their defense.

I would say the loss of Dawkins and Lito Sheppard would have to drop the Eagles down a few spots. I know they still have Samuel and Brown, but I think Sheppard is still a good Corner and will hurt their pass defense with him being gone.

And I believe the Jets D should be much better with Sheppard, Bart Scott, and Rex Ryan all being there. I know DD doesn't think so but I think they should be pretty solid this year.

I tend to agree. I think DD is letting his newly found Rex Ryan hate and divisional dis-taste sway his unbiased opinion.

Grain of salt.

I've already acknowledged that Bart Scott is the Jets' best LB, what I'm questioning is what the three other LBs are going to do. I've already acknowledged that the Jets' corners were well above average last year, which is why I don't think the Sheppard signing adds all that much. Rex Ryan has a good scheme, but it's freaking complicated and the Jets aren't going to nail it this season.

And distaste doesn't even begin to cover it. What I actually think of the Jets isn't mentionable on these forums, but needless to say their scumbag ass---- of a coach fits right in.

HAHAHAHA. Solid.

Ok I feel ya. You make some good points, but on the whole, you're far too biased to give a good opinion on a divisional team of the Dolphins.

Touching on the Eagles right quick, the Sheppard loss isn't as bad as one might think since he was basically a nickel guy last year after he started complaining. Don't forget they acquired Ellis Hobbs from NE on draft day. Very solid cover guy who could play some safety. Won't replace Dawkins' run support skills but might be an upgrade for the purpose of this thread.

OK Outlaws. I'm going to let this one stew over the weekend.

Anyone who would like to chime in on a certain teams off-season acquisitions for pass defense, please post.

Also, anyone who wants to bash on another team's passing defense and has some good facts to back it up, please contribute.

Monday I'll be working on the team's schedules and preparing the strength of schedules.

Hey RH, how bad is the Tampa pass defense going to be this year?

Pretty rough I'm guessing as a whole. Barber's back, which doesn't worry me. Talib appears to be the real deal so the corner positions look solid. What does scare me is that they're trying to bring Jermaine Phillips up as an outside LB and put Piscatelli back as the starting safety to replace Phillips. IMO, crappy decision. Piscatelli is nothing more than a back up and special teams player I believe. I think they have this idea that he's the next John Lynch or something.

Oddly enough, I really liked Piscatelli coming out of that year's draft. Not to be some world-beater, but as a serviceable hardworking rotational guy.

That must be why I didn't know that.

I try and avoid any publication referred to as a "style guide".

I sorta just assumed it was just blue and orange all these years..
