Orton: Is he or is he not on the block?

rotoworld,

Multiple NFL sources told the Denver Post that Broncos "let it be known" that Kyle Orton was available this offseason.

It's unclear if Orton remains on the trade block, even though a Broncos source tells the Post he isn't. Orton is currently leading the open competition to be the Broncos' starting quarterback in Week 1, with Brady Quinn right behind. As an incumbent that posted a solid 86.8 quarterback rating a year ago, we expect Orton to win the job as long as he's in a Broncos' uniform.

Mudd here: I'd say that the Broncs are nutz if they cut Orton loose depending on Quinn or Tebow to carry the load. I'm NO fan of Orton but the other two would give me nightmares if I was a Denver fan.

Ortons not the answer in Denver but he'll be the QB til somebody better comes along then thinking he'll move to more of a back up position or be traded away.

He's on the block. However Doogie won't part with him (right now) unless the deal is too good to pass up. The job is Orton's to lose.

Tebow will be a non factor this year. Orton will put up his usual steady, if unspectacular numbers. Whe he's healthy, he really isn't that bad. If denver didn't obliterate their roster, he would have been primed for a decent FF year.

On Monday, coach Josh McDaniels continued to refute reports that the Broncos have shopped Kyle Orton.

Kind of like he refuted reports the Broncos were looking to trade Jay Cutler last offseason. "There's not one quarterback on our roster that's been discussed or would be discussed at this point in any trade talks," said McD. "We're going to let them compete and the best guy is going to play."

Mike Lombardi of the National Football Post isn't buying the trade rumors surrounding Kyle Orton.

Lombardi, who's spent quite a bit of time in Denver this offseason, believes the rumors are a way for the Broncos to put "competitive pressure" on their projected Week 1 starter. Lombardi says Orton has been an underachiever to this point in his career because he "falls short in the competitive arena."

That's short for...Orton is 3/4 ego and 1/4 can't-live-with-him talent. With a little humility, a better work ethic and a better grasp on reality he could switch that around. But I don't see that happening anytime soon.
