Alex Smith restructure contract before SF will let him on the field

Huard expected to compete for starting role :hmmm:

Kansas City released Huard, 35, last month. His signing guarantees the 49ers will have at least two quarterbacks in uniform when they begin their first full team workouts in two weeks.
Shaun Hill, who led San Francisco to five wins in its final seven games, will be back to compete for the starting job.

:hmmm:

I can see bringing him in as a back-up if they don't think Smith will be back, but don't seriously think Huard will be "competing" for the starting job. I'm not sold on Hill, but he's better than Huard, and his record as a starter is 7-3 (or around there). Unless they add a big name QB, Hill is the starter.........

Makes me wonder about those who expect a QB pick in the first round. Unless they let A.Smith go...I just don't buy it anymore.

The Niners director of player personnel is on record (for what that's worth) as saying that they will be addressing either the OL or Pass Rush with their first round pick.
